What is the best electric winch?

    Hey guys,

Just wondering what the best electric winch on the market is? Also what one is the best value for money?

My mate has a Ramsey and it seems pretty good. Another mate has a tigerz11 which seems pretty cheap but I'm yet to see it in action. There is also warn, t-max, ironman and a stack of others ... Just seeing what everyone thinks??

Is plasma better than cable as well?

    Cheers

I have a warn high mount that I worn out and had refurbished by the winch doctor that still today works perfectly as well as a warn twin battery isolator that hasn't given me an ounce of trouble and that set-up has saved me many times and gets my vote. That old winch will be removed from my Tdi and fitted to my Puma and will be it's first mod. pat

Oh, I see by your location that you aren't Bear Grylls after all.

I was getting all excited there for a minute, after all Bear WOULD own a Landy for sure....

Anyway, Ramsay are a formidable unit, I have a Tigerz11 12,000lb because I am cheap, Plasma has its advantages, Lightweight, repairable, doesen't kink/ spike you, won't recoil like steel line, you can wind on 3 times as much etc etc.

Are you SURE you aren't related to Bear?????

(The wife expressly asked me NOT to ask these questions- as you can see I ALWAYS do as I am tol..OUCH!!!!)

IMO the best std off the shelf electric winch is the Warn m8274-50 however it's not a low mount so won't fit every front bar, and is expensive.

Most of the rest seem pretty good now in terms of lowmounts.

    I have had 5 Warn winches, and rate every one. (I still have 3 (8274-50 / 9.5xp and xd9000))

Haha no JC, sadly I'm not Bear Grylls

It's a name I got from college. My twin brother got called Bear and I got called Grylls It's an awesome nick name non the less haha ..

and sadly I don't have a landy either haha .. I have an 80 series. All my other cars have been landys tho! I will go back to them one day! :P

I would love a Ramsey but they are very expensive! I'll have to see what other people recommend. The tigerz seem good for value tho!

Personally if I was stuck like I once was in a creek in the NT I wouldn't care what winch I had as long as it worked.I'm going to fit plasma rope to my 8274,how much can I put on it?. Pat

Pat, IIRC about 2.5 times as much as 10mm cable. Maybe more?

    Others will know for sure.
