Thread: water water everywhere....

yesterday we thought we would take the rangie for a drive and try to get to the block at coverty.

checked all the road report sites and it appeared we could get to with in 15 minutes of the place but the last bit would be a gamble as there are a couple of low spots on the way in.

it is usually a 3 hour drive driveway to driveway.

loaded enough tucker for a few days, a couple of dogs, some recovery gear and off we ventured...

the roads were shocking, pin heads in small cars going way to fast for the conditions or ma and pa kettle doing 20kph in the center of the road.

some massive holes in the roads in the usual spots but nothing too untoward considering the last week or so.

get to the flats just before nanango, appears there is a metre or so of water over the road and we get out first major detour.

not to far out of the way and we end up at the showgrounds and continue on to kingaroy just in time for a massive downpour.

pull in at the cheapy fuel stop to get gas and the road turns to a creek while i fill up.

seems the fast four fraternity love hitting 6 inches of water at speed to see how far they can travel till they stall, while creating the biggest wash.

we decided to plod on and proceeded to head towards the chinchilla road turn off at wondai.

all went well for 20 klms till we came to home creek number 3 and we had to wade thru 200mm water which we did with the usual ease.

off we toddle for a couple of more klms till we get to home creek number 2 and we find 600mm of fast running water. two cars parked on the side of the road on the other side, one obviously having problems running.

we stopped for lunch to see if it drops any while we wait.

an hour later and there is no difference so we decide to look for a way around this hurdle.

took an hour or so of wading through sodden roads and dirt tracks but we managed to get around home creek number 2.

back on to the wondai - chinchilla road we continued to head west till we arrived at the stuart river bridge.

you couldn't see the bridge, it was under a couple of metres very fast running water.

bugger!

after a chat to a couple of those parked on the side of the road and we decided to head back home as it is obvious we were not going to make it any further for at least 5 or 6 hours and even then we had two lower spots to contend with if we tried.

trip back was fairly uneventful thankfully and 9 hours after leaving home we arrived back ..

and the road report sites were still reporting the roads as open and the rain gauge i emptied when i left had recorded another couple of inches of rain ...
