I know a certain middle eastern bloke who's son is a doctor and he is quite happy to dish out the disabled letter to others in the know.
If they are disabled then well and good but being related or from the same locality is no basis for denying genuine people with mobility issues a parking spot close to the shops.
I have mentioned to one sprightly fellow carrying a 20 litre can of paint back to his car that the rehab must be going well. I can't repeat what he yelled back at me.
As another poster said earlier - Its not worth complaining. Karma will hopefully sort them out and they will have a parking spot at the pearly gates right out the back blocks
Y'see, the problem is that the government has accepted being mentally incapacitated as being an official "Disability".....
It should not be any Doc who can sign for a disabled sticker but a specialist or a specific doctor in each area who handels all applications as in some area's such as where my grandparents live/lived , "the biggest above ground cemetary in the world" (aka the central coast NSW tagged by spike milligan:D), the entire carpark is just about covered by cars with disabled stickers as you have a swarm of older pensioners and single parents all hit the shops at the same time on pension day. Now yes some are genuine like my mums parents who only use the sticker when they have my disabled aunt(their daughter) on board AND ARE 89 AN 91 years old! But as has been stated there are way to many who may be over 60 but lift /carry bags and trolley's of crap to their cars only stopping to light up a ciggie once outside.
Yes, in Qld your local GP is the one that writes the letter/form to be submitted to QT,I have just recieved mine, after being on a disability pension since 1982 I did not think that I was disabled enough to require one until my last operation, but one of the problems associated with them is that when used in a shopping centre carpark it is on private property,so therefore the police have no authority to book/fine those that abuse the system :( the shopping centre is usually on a site developed by a major absentee O/seas owned development Coy and it is them that have to lodge any complaint of misuse of facilities :(
cheers
Actually UncleHo, the police have every authority to book people for parking in a disabled spot in shopping centre car parks, officially theyre classified (IIRC) as road related areas, and the police can and do book people for traffic offences in car parks
the catch is, you've gotta find a copper who is actually interested in something that "trivial".... usually they only bother with people in carpaks if its something truly heinous
annoys me that many of these fictitious "disabled" with the parking "plagues" also get a centrelink pension for the same "disability"... saves the government unemployment stats from looking bad I guess -
If only I could name a few people here to publicly shame them, how ever in this wonderful nanny state in which we live they are protected by there own inability to be constructive citizens in our society. I have a couple of "outlaws" (we all have a few black sheep in the family) who have made an artform out of social welfare benefits, medical lurks and anything else that can be had for nothing. The disabled parking is only the icing on the very fat cake to which they frequently feed.
Most of the genuine disabled people I know are too proud to use the disabled parking. We have only ourselves to blame for allowing society to evolve in this direction.
