    Not this crap again...

    You list your location as Germany, if you were talking about there I would agree. I think I paid ~45% income tax when I was there - and that is about the minimum tax level.

    Have a look at this graph. It shows we have one of the LOWEST (personal) income tax rates of developed nations.\

    I don't like paying tax, and don't have problems with people who legally minimise their tax, but stop talking BS.

    Note that we even have lower taxes than the US! Since the US has both FEDERAL AND STATE income tax.

    As for taxes like the GST, Show me another country with 10% or lower GST???

    Er I think we should have a bit of reality here.

    The net revenue lost on internet sales is dwarfed by 'cashies' by tradesmen and other rorters.
    And the government has already said that the compliance cost would be greater than the tax collected on internet sales under $1000. That is why they allow it, because it is not worth chasing.

    If the tax office instituted 'lifestyle audits' as I understand they do in France, then I reckon hundreds of millions of dollars would be easily found where spending is greater than declared income.

    Like the electrician I bought my 2nd hand generator from, as it was not big enough to be auxiliary on his 48foot Riviera.

    Your are absolutely correct - we do pay low income tax in Oz comperd with other nations, but that not what I was stated.
    I stated that overall I think that Oz is one of highest tax paying nations. Germany has higher income tax level than Oz, but overall I pay less tax and have more money in my pocket at the end of the month here in Germany than in Oz.

    The GST/VAT rate on its own is NOT an accurate reflection of the overall level of tax paid.

    You wanted to know what other countries had 10% or lower GST/VAT - as per wikipedia: Value added tax - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Iran, Jersey, Andorra, Japan, Taiwan, Canada, Panama, Singapore, Thailand, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Egypt, South Korea, Lebanon, Malaysia, Indonesia, Paraguay, and Vietnam.

    I dont have a problem with paying tax and I think that the lifestyle in Australia cant be beat, but Id rather the Governments were more responsible with the allocation of our tax resources, than just simply increase taxes. Although I guess that increasing taxes is alot simpler than trying to streamline Government spending.

    And like the NSW policeman that one of those corruption enquiries found had paid cash for a yacht whose purchase price was greater than the total salary he had earned in many years on the force.

    Your not wrong there. Go down to any boat ramp and the cash jobs come down on big trailers.

    As has been said before the Howard Government botched the introduction of the GST. We knew it then and we have evidence of it now, that a GST collected at the cash register will never be fully collected. We have seen the black economy flourish under GST.

    Can we prosecute politicians for lying about stamping out the black economy when they were introducing the GST?

    You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    As did VAT in Europe, GST created the black economy which functions admirably. I have had people buy equipment for cash up to $85,000, in which case it was pulled out of a chock full 4 gallon kerosine tin bucket which was still 2/3 full afterwards.

    Not sure if I would like a lifestyle audit... sounds painful , but seriously... I am a tradesman, but would not liked to be lumped into the 'rorters' catagory. My full time job now is completely different, but I keep my eye in on the weekends by doing work for extra income. This is all done above board, and I keep my books properly and pay my taxes, but the amount of people who ask for a 'cash' price far outweighs people who want a legit tax invoice for the work. I can see why some people take huge advantage of this, and would end up with an enormous untraceable income, but I'm not one of them...

    I love how its the perceived view that tradies are making money 100-1 over everyone else....and ontop of that its all cashies ...I guess thats why I drive a 13 year old defender thats my only vehicle...

    Of all the tradies I know that are sitting pretty, they have worked their butts off, taken risks, and made money by employing staff so they can expand....now it costs enough to go to work as a tradie, let alone employ them....so I reckon they have earnt it....if you dont like it...go do an apprenticship and DIY

    It just happened to be your turn this time.

    We have already had:
    All politicians are self serving crooks;
    All cops are corrupt;
    All city drivers are hopeless on country roads;
    All teachers are hopeless spellers;
    All university graduates are idiots;
    All journalists distort the truth;
    All old drivers are a menace on the roads;
    All people of Middle Eastern appearance are a threat to our way of life;
    All second hand car salesmen are dishonest;
    and several others.

    This week was "All tradies are making a fortune with their cash jobs" week.

    Next week I believe it will be the turn of people who own designer breeds of dogs.
