I've call NRMA a few times for my County.
Funny one was when I threw an alternator belt. I had the belt, and everything required to do it except for a 10mm (i think) spanner (had left it out at my fathers place). I called them up and started to explain.. the girl on the phone just said 'it's ok, we will send someone out' I think she found it a little funny :)
When the guy arrived, he just walked up with his spanner and said 'well you're already dirty so there you go!'.. wished that all his jobs were this easy and went on his way.
The value with these things comes with tow coverage.. I see it as insurance against the cost of towing.
Similar experience when I ran a fuel tank dry on the 2.25D IIA (well it was actually the centre seat passenger's fault - they kicked the valve into the middle). I didn't have the spanner to bleed the IP - left at home. The RAC(WA) guy turned up, lent me a 7 mm spanner, and said - you would have a much better idea how to do it than me.
