I wont complain about filter costs again

    Gday All,

I had to buy a fuel filter for a 40hp Mariner outboard today, and I will never complain about car filter costs again.

The filter would be the size of a matchbox only round, and it set me back $40 ...and that was with a discount..

makes the filters we get for the boat seem cheap as we dont even pay that for our main fuel filters which would be 300mm long.

Hope it lasts for that price..

    Cheers Ean

Outboard parts are very expensive here too. I run a couple of 200 4 stroke yammies and have found its cheaper to get parts from the states than through the local dealer by far. One example is 300 plus for a timing belt, just over 100 with postage from the states.

I have a Rover 21" cut mower with a Briggs 5.5 hp industrial engine. The air filter is a pleated paper rectangle about 3" x 4" and the last one I bought was $22. I have wondered if it would be worthwhile getting a couple from the US. Air mail would probably negate any price difference.

Fuel injected, thankfully, although i hope I never have to tinker with that - would mean a trip to the local dealer Reef Marine alias "Thief Marine".
