Yep, that's one of the many pages I have saved in my favourites.
the brake pad experience sounds like a raws workshop complience.this is used for latter model low volume imports and the vehicle has to be full certified and like a used cars sales conditions warranty ect.
with all extras in working order and unmolested condition.the system has changed a few times over the years as it was created in the 90's to stuff people around.
personal import by a resident is different system.car has to be owned for over 12month now.gets a basic safety check.
Ive imported 2 skylines under the pre1988 rule.I shipped it myself using a freight fowarder.they prefer it to be shipped with personal effects if imigrating-i used roll on roll off.
the first cars was impounded and customs stuffed all around.the had the car revalued and invesigated for tax fraud.I payed NZ$1100 for the car and much to someones dislike they valuers claimed it to be $1350.
the cost for this stuff around was payed by the agent as i had a fixed price.then a tow truck was on stand by to pick the car up as you cant go on the docks.the car was sent to a detailer for a clean--it had been detailer in new zealand.i picked the car up from there.no security i simply walked in and asked for the skyline keys.the car was sitting running as the battery was flat.the drive through sydney must have cleaned the car.
$1200ish engineers report-new tryes brakes and seatbelts and a free bagtest by the rta.
the second car was confiscated for R12 importation.the fact that it had no a/c compressor didnt stop this government protection stupidity.
in the end a statatory decleration was tendered to confirm that the car was for personal use and not for comercial resale.the car was released.
third car sitting cut up in a box as they refused importation permision.
the local 2 agents arnt interested in another problem.
A performance V6 nissan car in UK is being striped and converted to diesel under the silly tax rules.the low km engine full conversion is sitting there for $600.
any one can help there.

Blimey, it was March when I first started this thread..
Anyway, stage 1 - obtaining the import permit is complete, finally received the permit this morning![]()
From applying to receiving has taken 4 weeks, it took me 6 weeks after arriving in Melbourne to get the right paperwork together for Canberra and I have to be honest I wasn't expecting the permit this side of Christmas, so the blummin car isn't ready for shipping yet by a long way
Still, I've had the shipping details through from the UK and it'll be in a container, Melbourne bound, early in January and arriving here 6-8 weeks later
Had I got the chap working on it to get it ready earlier, I could've had it in a container on the 21st December and catching one of the last boats out prior to Christmas, but thinking I wouldn't get the permit in time I didn't bother, so it's not even been started yet.
Things it's having done are : Serviced from end to end, all the fluids are being changed, rebuild the rear brakes & the stupid (knackered) EPB, replace the dampers / springs, gearbox sump pan & oil change, new steering wheel, re-programme the ecu to say it's upside down along with anything else I think of between now & January![]()
So Mike... What parts & pieces can I stuff in that container![]()
LOL
It's a 20ft container and the car takes up 16ft of it so I'm told.
I'd offer the spare container space to fill, but I think it could cause issues for me with customs once it arrives here. I have to list everything in the car and so far, the boot is completely full of (new) Wolf boxes packed with all my own gear along with my spare jerrycans. The roofrack has my additional spare attached to it. I'm told everything needs to be in the car really, otherwise I'd probably have put an additional set of wheels with MTR's on in the container as well
The back seat is currently empty though....
