    Dingo Visitors

Had some visitors the other day, came walking across to the car park across from emergency services. Also when we came back from a job they were wondering around in the engine bays. They have been frequenting the mine a bit lately. The problem is some of the clowns on site are feeding them so they are getting a bit fearless and that will lead to a control measure being implemented.

Why do people feed native animals, don't they realise it's not good for them, as beautiful as they are, it's not a good idea.

In many parts of the world it is considered a good thing (i.e. assisting conservation) to feed wild animals.

I am not saying I agree...

They wander through the centre of town here after dark.

Have been more prevelant since October 1998 when the dog laws came in to force and dogs could no longer roam the streets.

They also knock over wheelie bins.
    Cheers, Dale

Your town musn't have enough Labradors then, if the dingos can get a go.
    LOL
Dingos are not really native like say a Koala , as they were SE Asian "kampong" dogs which came with the traders. I had a kampong dog in Malaysia that was for all intents a Dingo, and it was a great dog.

Just like domestic dogs, if you get them in a pack they can be dangerous. I also met a domestic Dingo in Sydney at the dog beach and it was a great dog, but they do like eating chooks.

However I was at the spot of one supposed attack on Fraser where a bitch attacked some English tourist kids. I saw some kids chasing some pups down at Hooke point . Apparently the bitch bit them. Big surprise.

And the way tourists treated them was appalling. I saw people feeding tidbits on the sand then kicking sand in the face of Dingos when they went to fetch it. My nephew's mother in law lived at Happy Valley and used to feed them. I think she was fined thousands of dollars.

Even that dog you have a photo of does not look pure to me with the black muzzle, suggesting German Shepherd cross. If you google Dingo you will see virtually all the images show a white muzzle.
    Regards Philip A

Start of shift last week while i was doing my pit inspections i seen a dingo run up the stairs of a 3600 digger , it really ****ed me off because these guys must be feeding them up there.

People think they are being kind by feeding these animals buy in reality it is going to kill them when they send in the trappers to distroy the poor buggers.

Yeah like the majority of them probablly crossed with something else (Black Muzzle) but still regarded as a Dingo. There are about 6 of them all up. I think they are a recent litter from last year.

There's a few hanging around out where we are too Craig. One seen near the camp and the road train park-up most evenings is a pretty scrawny looking thing, but there's another we see regularly in the mornings about half way out to the mine along the haul road (it's about 18 km out there from the camp) looks younger and a more healthy example.

A lot of roos around at the moment too - very green out our way. We're also seeing a lot of young king browns in the camp at night - they must be having a feed on the large number of frogs that have been around since the rains.
    Cheers .........
