Then there is the power issue of the 70's and huge fuel consumption on some models (in excess of 20/100km.... not towing!)
I have a work Hilux and after driving a Navara and the Disco it is a big dissapointment... now chipped and new exhaust... at least it can now do the same speed up the local hill as my 300tdi!
(The chip had top go in when I was passed by a rental Iveco camper going up a hill!)
I think like all the reported Land Rover problems It's few and far between, although most Toymota owners will not admit to problems.
I've done 16,000 K's with 2 oil changes and no oil usage to worry about as such.
Cheers
The Audi 3.0V6 Tdi motor in the cayenne used 600ml in the first 10000km. since then it hasn't used a drop (now over 27000km). 1 litre per 5000 in perpetuity is totally unacceptable IMO.
I have a 70 series V8 diesel tray back as a work ute, it is about 12 months old. We don't regularly do big K's, mainly deliveries around town & dump runs.
It uses about 800ml of oil per month, my D3's oil usage hardly shows on the dip stick over 6 months. Ho, & neither leak oil.
The off boost performance in both is ordinary to say the least but with that big motor I thought the 70 would be better.
The inter-cooler scoop on the 70 pulls in every bit of road crap you could think off.
The air filter is not that bad considering our dusty environment.
The 70 is useless in the mud (our main 4WD driving condition). Whether it is the different track front to rear or too much power in too much rush it is a bugger of a thing to drive in the mud. Lots of wheel spin (even with a big load), slow to react to corrections & lovely slides down the road camber into the table drain. Winch work, just love it:mad:.
I must say it is awesome up steep rocky climbs though.
Some one should tell Toyota about sound deadening or how to make a V8 diesel sound like something other than a truck.
Go the D3.
When the lease runs out I will try to get a Defender 130 tray back, only 2 years to wait.

It still baffles me how oil usage could be considered normal??? 1L per 1000km aint really good is it?
According to the experts it's the overstressed undersize Euro engines that should be causing problems not the big lazy Jap engines.Niether of my small euro's uses a drop. Pat
