OK OK time to come clean...

This is actually material that was posted by a friend on another forum.

I'll let him tell the story:

    OK OK, time to come clean;

Good mate Craig is a taxidermist and a good one at that, but not a miracle worker.

Apparently this guy who was a worker at Bullens lion park 20odd years ago got the tigers head and froze it.

He rang Craig and ask him if he could mount it for him

Like it had been in a freezer for over twenty years. When he pulled it out it stank to high heaven as it defrosted. Full of freezer burn etc etc and is a write off. He ended up keeping it for the skull.

We were talking and decided to pull a few chains seeing as big cats are a great subject...

it was a bit of fun while it lasted.

Sorry to be a ***** of a man but gotta have some fun sometimes eh?
Thanks for participating and making a dull Sunday arvo more fun.

So there - it WAS a zoo "on the SE Qld coast" after all.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Cheers, didn't know about the Yatala one... but both were owned by the Bullen family???

    Interesting reading:
Bullens African Lion Safari Park proved a roaring success | Courier Mail

Not surprisingly, there were some nasty accidents over the years.

In 1973, an attendant was dragged off by lions and killed in front of a family sitting in their car, and a little girl was bitten on the cheek by a lion.

Striking workers, some of whom said they had been bitten by hyenas and clawed by tigers, were locked out by management at one stage after demanding danger money.

Another time, "Jumbo" the Indian elephant busted out and was found rummaging through garbage bins in suburban Beenleigh looking for a midnight snack.

It must have been tricky getting her back in her pen as she responded only to commands given in a thick Indian accent.
    And Warragamba:
    Incidents

On August 7, 1995 several lionesses escaped from the park, terrorised the nearby townships of Warragamba & Silverdale and killed a dog. The lioness responsible for killing the dog was shot. As a result of the escape the park was required to upgrade facilities. A bear also escaped and was shot by residents.[3]
