Scallops, What a great story. I hope the trip is all you hope!
FIL only discovered his real history in his 60's, with his older relatives all passed over the other side

    All the best.
    Dave.

Thanks peoples. It's true - this virtual community is a wonderful resource and I'm honoured and humbled to be able to share some of my precious feelings with you. Your collective received advice in this regard helps me too.

I wouldn't be surprised if he comes up with a dance that will solve this riddle - if he can construct a dance that teaches complex numbers to 5 year olds, why not?

Interesting - In 2008 I flew into Halifax to tour Nova Scotia and spent a weekend at Enfield with a mob of Land Rover enthuasists from The Maritime Organisation of Rover Enthuasists (M.O.R.E.) and had a great weekend. If you are in need of a Land Rover 'fix' and have time while you're over there, I recommend that you contact Con (one of the LR nuts) who also runs a B & B at Enfield, which is only 100kms or 1 1/4 hrs from Wolfville.

Following is a link to the MORE website plus a bit about MORE and Con's B & B. Not sure when you're going but they have an annual Labour Day Rally around the end of September.
Their website - Maritime Organization of Rover Enthusiasts

The Maritime Organisation of Rover Enthuasists was started in 1987 when three people Dan Dagenais, Justin Muers and John Cranfield were drinking coffee in John's living room after a day playing in the wood with their Land Rovers.

It was intended at that time to be an informal group with little organization and that was what it got. Over the years Dan and Justin moved away and the group only consisted of John and Con Seitl who had joined in 89. In the late 90s there were a good number of new enthusiasts around Nova Scotia which has led to a resurgence of MORE.

At the turn of the century, the structure of the club changed resulting in the number of members increasing with the greatest of enthusiasm for Land Rovers.
MORE now has about 150 enthuastic members, no committee and from my short association with them, organise some awsome events.

They have had a Labour Day weekend rally every year since 1998. In addition to informal trail runs throughout the year, Since 1999, club member John Cranfield has held the annual Moose Trophy rally on his farm.

Several members meet at the Tim Hortons in Bayers Lake, Nova Scotia on the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm(ish) for an informal coffee night and discussion and that is about
as close as they get to what we know as a General Meeting.

Some of Con's 'spares' - Rose prefers her Rangie

I hope this not too far off topic but just thought you might need a little Land Rover time while over there.

Thanks Xtreme - great tip, I'll try to look up Con whilst I'm over there.

I can see it now, me and that S1 in your first photo - there goes the holiday! I'm only there for 4 weeks! Are you aware it took me 12 weeks to fix my S1 water pump?

    I'll be deported.

Like all Land Rover people, the MORE mob are a great easy going group.

I hope you haven't jinxed me with your talk about your water pump job. My job tomorrow is to replace the water pump on my Disco II.

Just checked your departure date - You'll be a bit early for the Labour Day weekend but maybe they'll have something else on, The Moose Trophy was on May 21,22 so you've just missed that. The PIERRE GAUTHIER EVENT will be on August 6th until August 13/14 so you're also too early for that one. Here's one but there doesn't seem to much interest in it - The British Motoring Festival 2011 on July 9 in Windsor, Nova Scotia.

Anyway, say G'day to Con and Rose if you get to meet up and have a great trip anyway.
    Roger

    Scallops,

What a wonderful story, probably best appreciated at this stage of your life after some of your life experience such that you can truely appreciate your Grandad's life time of achievements.

Have a great time, the Canadians are a great country of people, if I was to live anywhere else it would be Canada.

Hey Scallops, that story sounds better than winning the lottery. What an impressive array of interesting people in your heritage. Best wishes for an excellent trip. Mike

Top stuff mate...who or what they have done pales into insignificance when compared to...at your age ....you still have a grand parent. I never knew my paternal grand parents, my father's mother died when he was 15 and his father we never met.......wish I had met both.

Luckily my own children know their grandpa...........albeit sadly.........he has been recently diagnosed with advanced lung cancer...........with 2-5 yrs to live.......suffice to say mate............I quit the day I found out 2 weeks ago . Have an awesome time Dan/Kat,

    Regards

    Stevo

Heya Stevo - I appreciate your kind words, but our thoughts are with you at this time, regarding your Dad. I have come to understand the threat of cancer more personally recently and it is truly an insidious thing. Kat and I send our love, and wish for the best outcome for you and family. I wish I could offer you more...

Hey - come on, stick with it - you can beat the smokes. Kat and I managed it many years back, it certainly wasn't easy, but if any good might come from circumstance, then maybe this is your time to do so too.

Stevo - Kat and I look forward to another Sundowner once we return home, hey?
