    Gday all,
We had the turbo 6(non intercooled) at work and it was qute good to drive ,not as nice as the Disco but good for what it was.The engine had a nice spread of power and torque and the drive by wire throttle was the best I've driven, but it didn't seem to have much more go than the TD5,but we do carry a bit of weight...Now we have the V8...what a POS,you couldn't give me one,all noise and anything over 1200rpm is hopeless!,the 6cyl would kill it,I asked the Dealer was it de-tuned for us and they said no??.I think the 6cyl with an intercooler would be a great car,...second to a Landy of course
    Cheers Gregg

1HD-FTE, the pinacle of Tojo engines, I'm yet to know of a real failure, I know of on dude who's injector pump failed at 320k the only other reports are Pat, but he still has shown no real evidence, I'd like to see if he could though

I think thats spot on,but the interior is woeful for a car of that price and people call Defenders plain.I've found with Landies,it's the little things that impress you the most, the jack for instance, the disco has a big heavy hydraulic one, nice and stable, easy to use.The Cruiser has this pi@#y little gear jobby with a two piece handle that falls apart under the car, then struggles to lift it up,its a job to change a wheel on the tar at the depot,I'd hate to do it in the scrub
Plus you can't beat constant four-wheel drive

Still the only other Tojo diesel motor that can stand in the same room as a 12HT and not be embarrassed

Wouldn't give a pinch for any of the V8 diesels though

Yea, 12HT is a good apple also, although the direct injected 4's aren't to bad

V8's are an interesting drive a mate has one, very square power curve, from nothing to governor its all the same, piddly little turbo and exhaust

Bet the reduced lifespan, excesss oil consumption and poor reliability aren't endearing them to owners, give me one of their factory Turbo 6's anyday.

I know a bloke who has a 100 Series with well over 450 000km. Has done three timing belt replacements (every 150 000km) and routine servicing. No other engine parts have been touched. It still goes well and does a lot of towing.

Just don't catch them just of idle with a load on board that V8 motor is running pretty low compression, not real flash in the engine braking department either.
