Injector seals x2, Bob
Don't reckon it's your fuel pump or anything to do with changing it ..... will prob be injector seals. Worst case - cracked head, but get seals looked at first.

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
Well, after the oil change its now running perfectly so far. I saw the fuel pump gushing fuel before it was changed, so it was certainly leaking big time. Of course, if the injectors are also leaking, as you suggest, that could take some time to have an effect I suppose. I better monitor the oil level daily and watch for any increase.

Not 100% about them, but the 300Tdi defender fuel pump is mechanical driven by the cam - so any fuel that can leak out the back of the pump can run straight back into the sump.
Don't see the disco being too much different.

Thanks Bushie, I assume its the same on my Disco 300tdi, so that would explain it. A lot of diesel leaked while I was driving from Brissie to the Gold Coast, so that would be when it got into the sump.
Since the oil change the oil level has not increased, so hopefully the new fuel pump has fixed the problem. However, I'm still unsure if there are more vibrations than there were before the problem. Its a bit hard and I'm not sure if I am just being paranoid. So I'll keep monitorng it and hope for the best, as I really don't need a big bill right now. Hey Disco Mick - scrub my previous post. I had it in my head that your Disco was a TD5 for some reason......
Hope the new lift pump has solved things for you.
Cheers

No worries. Hoping all is Ok.
Just an update and the troubles have continued.
A new sump of engine oil had it running nicely, but then there was a severe vibration at about 2000 rpm. Changing gears manully seemed to help a bit. I worried that diesel had also gotten into the gearbox, although I was advised that was unlikely, so to be sure I dumped the gearbox oil and replaced the six litres that came out with fresh ATF. Gearbox since been smoother.
However, then a ticking noise started and got worse, seemed to increase with engine speed. I suspected the belt, but it seemed OK so I suspected a pulley, but they seemed OK. Got worse, so on Monday I organised for the wife to take it to British Offroad. Sure enough, when she arrived the noise had stopped (Murphy's Law), so they replaced the belt, which had some rubbing on the side and the guy said to go for a short drive and see if the noise came back. Fifty metres down the road it was back so she went back and Andrew went for a drive and diagnosed the propshaft. Crawled under and sure enough the universal joint was stuffed, noti even any bushes left, and the shaft had seized. Replaced them with good second hand ones and its been fine ever since. Good thing it didn't fall out when driving or we could have flipped.
So, a big thanks to British Offroad - can't recommend them enough - and all digits remain crossed for no further problems.
Mick, the diesel got in via the pump and 20/50 oil is way to thick for a Tdi,stick a bar in the uni's and give them a wiggle every time you grease them, thats every second oil change or after you've been through water. Pat
