    Camping Location advice required

    Hi all,
I should probably put this in the outdoors section but really after some camping ideas.
Firstly, I know it's school holidays but I have the opportunity to take a couple of days off at my choice. I'll prob make a long weekend of it this weekend.

Anyhow, There are lots of campgrounds around SEQ, but I am after some recomendations for places within a reasonable distance of Brissy where I can take my boys (maybe Wife as well) to do something a bit different.
I don't really want a water sport based spot as it's too cold to dust off the kayak . Maybe some 4x4, horseriding, treking, fishing etc.

Other than that, the options are numerous but I am after a place that I can pack a lot in a short 2-3 days rather than your average lazing around for a week or so.

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Ralph

Out Cunningham's Gap way there are a few options...

we were at Janowen Hills 4WD park on the weekend...reasonable fees for camping and only $25.00 for 5 days driving around the 4WD tracks.

Up the road is Goomburra Nat park so walks there.

On the highway is Cherribah which has horse riding and camping.

Gordan's Country also has camping and 4WD tracks and is closer to the Nat park, don't know the fees though.

And in the local area there is plenty of things to see and do

    Hope this helps

    I suggest the booklet " DIRTY WEEKENDS in South East QLD ", THE ESSENTIAL 4wd guide, by Brad McCarthy, currently in the 5th edition.In it you will find details of 17 private parks, 8 beaches, and 14 articles on "The Bush," various areas of the S.E. worth a visit. Each place is covered in detail, information is provided under these headings;
Tour description, attractions, standard [easy to extreme,4wd], best time to visit, starting and finishing points, distance [sealed, unsealed], track surfaces, recommended duration [to help plan the trip ], camping [ including sites along the trip or reasonably close by ], permits and bookings [also barges, ferries, camping ], accommodation [if you desire],useful maps [ very comprehensive, down to gps co-ordinates ], festivals and events, warnings/hazards/restrictions, help! [breakdown assistance], I bought mine from an ARB shop, but I think they are at most good 4WD stores. I had no idea there were so many great places to take the family and the 4Wd so close to Brisbane, enjoy, Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Ralph1Malph, X2 all of the above and throw in a copy of "Take a Walk in SEQ". Great selection of short and long walks to break up a drive.
Also: Granite country B&B s & wineries, Bunya mountains.
