I'm with you. Stuffed if I know why they use them instead of ARMCO, must be the price. Far rather hit an ARMCO barrier than a wire in a car or on a bike.

The wires are a far better way of restraining a car than the armco. If you glance off armco you're laughing, if you give it a bit more of a hit you will go through it. The wires, you can hit them in anyway you like including head on and they will catch the car and stop it.

Yes, I am a road bike rider (well, its actually a TT bike) but the wires more than have their place.

    Edit, oh motorbike rider! Oops

I remember having a discussion with RN (Roadnazi - a senior vic traffic cop) on outerlimits about these barriers. I was saying they were sausagemakers, IRC he was saying there were studies which proved otherwise...

There are designs of barrier which are flexible, can catch a car as well as a wire barrier, better than armco and safer to bikes,

Of course those designs are VERY expensive so unlikely we'll see them anywhere for the time being.

All I know is wh3en I was riding bikes these things were just starting to come in and they gave me the heeby jeebies !

I'm starting to see some of these withthe plastic on the lower half to stop riders sliding under/through them. They still don't look too inviting, so I ride to conditions & stay away from them.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
