Jeeps and touring
Greetings
Well I would not have expected the old Jeeps are expensive and there is no parts avail on a LandRover forum. LOL usually those thoughts are from the toyo-issan fans. At anyrate those that posted earlier about ausjeepoffroad.com is really the place to go to get information. As to Jeeps being no good at touring I beg to differ. I just got back from 5200 kilometers of 4x4 holidaying in the Outback with 3300 kilometers off the bitumen. Of course our Wranger is a JK not a TJ. She is a Diesel and has heaps of mods for touring.

These are all from July this year the last 2 are my favorite on top of Big Red. Especially recovering my friends Patrol.

I clarify my remarks, Its not big enough for our family tourer... we only just fit in the D3 with two kids. But we can easily do a month on the road once we're loaded.

Hi all. I am a newbe here (both to Australia and AULRO) but have owned a TJ in the past (Discovery 2 now). I loved mine. I had a 2004 with the 4.0 liter with the manual tranny. I put a 2" lift and 31" tires and the thing would go anywhere I would dare to take it. Check for oil leaks at the rear main seal. Mine went at about 100k, but that was the only thing that I ever had to do to it. Cannot compare to a LR in ride or refinement, but top down cruising is great fun and capability is hard to beat.
P.S. Yes, mine was a factory second as they put the steering wheel on the wrong side.:D

I spent till the wee hours of the morning over a mates having inspirational beverages over a stripped down 258 six from a Jeep. It's an AMC engine which has an uncanny resemblance to a hemi six. An exercise in brain matter replacement by the use of elephant repellent made someone scream out the suggestion of volunteering for fitting my old redundant 265 head and triple Dellorto's to the block for a few ****s and giggles.
The Jeep folk always say it cannot be done, fine it's not as simple as bolt on a head and get an instant injected Hemi 6 but initial inpections beg to differ the impossibility of such a conversion.
It would be interesting.

I know 5 Jeep owners and they haven't had any of the problems Toyo/Nisso owners claim the brand has, kinda like my LR's actually. Pat
