Methotrexate is a potent drug that has potential for serious consequences.

With respect. These are questions you should be talking to your doctor or pharmacist about, not something that is appropriate for an internet forum no matter how caring other members of the forum are.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

thanks Diana, my wife, a specialist RN, gave me exactly the same answer. jx2mad, I believe if youve been prescribed this particular drug without knowing its possible effects that you really should immediately consult your private physician or seek a further consultation with the specialist who prescribed it to you. This being said with care.

    Methatrexate

Thanks all. I am on minimal dose and have been advised of possible side effects. I thought I read in a thread on here a while back that someone was on it and I was just asking of others experiences. Jim

I'm taking a 10mg one,a couple of days late as I type. This thread reminded me that I forgot to remember not to forget to take the tablet. I was getting stomach aches up til a few weeks ago, and my GP told me that some of his patients get stomach ulcers or bleeding from the intestine from Methotrexate. The stomach aches have reduced in recent weeks
I take it once a week with the evening meal, followed by 2 Folic acid 5mg tablets and 1 Prednisolone 5mg next morning.the remainder of the week I just take the Prednisolone with breakfast each day.I've been on this course for a couple of years now to control Rhumatoid Arthritus.Doesn't seem to be quite so effective lately.I am extremely physically active for a 61 year old, but on the occasion that i give myself a day off, the pain and reduced freedom of joint movement gets well into the uncomfortable zone.I've tried without success, non prescription alternatives that have worked for some others.

My 8 year old Son has been on years now for juvenile Arthritis. It needs to be closely monitors by your doctor. The list of side effects are scary but as with all drugs you don't get them all. You have to way up the benefits against the risks. Without it my sons quality of life and long term heath effects are alot worse than taking the drug. He is also on other drug like Wagoo. The foliate is suppose to help with some of the side effects.

I give it before bed as it gives him a bit of norsia and by the time he wakes up he is fine. It also reduces the immune system so you might get more colds or infections. It's a good idea to get flu shots etc.

You need to have a long talk with your Doctor and go over the pros and cons and see if it right for you. As lots of questions and feel comfortable with your decision. You have a right to be concerned.

    Cheers, David.

Juvenile Arthritus! What a bummer Very sorry to hear that David. At least mine waited till I'd had a fair innings, and was self inflicted to a degree and possibly avoidable had I taken more care in my youth.

About 15 years ago I took this stuff for severe psoriasis and it was very effective. I honestly can't recall what dose or side effects I had but i do recall that I needed to have a fortnightly blood test to see if it was screwing my liver...

My strongest (and perhaps most worthwhile) memory of the methotrexate thing was passing out after one of these blood tests.

After hitting the floor I can clearly recall the delightful sight of one of the practice nurses' very impressive cleavage as she leaned over me to see if I was ok. Aaaah. Memories.
