    local council rules with respect to tree pruning

    Hi guys, I need some clarification with regards to council rules and pruning tree branches.My next door neighbour has pruned a few of the tree branches over hanging the fence line this afternoon and thrown them over my side of the fence to clean up. I know I was having a discussion about this same thing with one of the other neighbours 2 days ago and he pointed out to me that if a tree belonging to a residant is over hanging the fence line and the neighbouring resident prunes it then it is their responsibility to discard the tree cuttings. Only reason I ask this and I was happy to clean up the branches this afternoon however seeing they emptied their pool this morning which is located in front of their property resulted in sand and being washed up on my side I was left with the job of cleaning this up and she never offered to clean up the mess , so I was left with the job of the cleaning all mulch sand and dirt over my side of the drive way any thoughts on this ?

    Cant help alot with the tree pruning but I thought if they cut it they have to clean up regardless of which side of the fence the cuttings come from, but with the pool no drainage is allowed to flow onto an ajoining property it must be directed into a storm water drain had this discussion with a council inspector as I was using the back flush for the lawn and when a new garage we built was inspected he told me about the pool

    PS if backflushing their pool washes sand on to your place them their filter is probably stuffed the sand is supposed to stay in the filter.

    Your neighbours are allowed to prune overhanging branches, but they should dispose of them. The old rule was to return the cuttings, but this rule was dropped by most councils due to the conflict it could cause. I would double check with your local council though. As for the sand, as mentioned, this is a big no no. I would chat to the council about this too, or, as your neighbour has already done, return the sand over the fence to thier house...

    Hi Geoff;

    we're under hornsby council. I don't believe they had asked for permission to prune the tree branches , but seeing that she drained her pool this afternoon and left the job of cleaning it up I think I will try and enforce this . I know she tried the same thing with the neighbours 2 doors down from our place and they kindly returned the tree cuttings

    Hi Ron , yep same neighbour , they now have 2 new dogs. Their bigger dog climbs on top of the kids trumpalin( hope I spelt that correctly) and barks directly at anyone in veranda or the yard.
    Tom , that's exactly what I did , I kindly returned the tree cuttings back over the fence.

    Get good with a slingshot.

    Barking dogs get very subdued very quickly after they've been hit a few times with compacted pepper, chilly and cyanne pellets.

    Good combo Dave.

    Just a FWIW, a neighbour wanted a gun license to knock off bunnies that were causing havoc, but instead had a mate from the UK post a really good catapult over.

    Customs apparently inspected it as it contained a note with their letterhead and "Be Careful' on it
