    Derby is great fun..

It was a fantastic night.. The "new" derby is different from the "old" derby but it's still a full contact sport.

Every Female should have a crack at it (and males can do it too in some leagues) it's great for fitness and friendship building.

Glad i've made you proud Incisor. Fingers crossed I'll be bouting again soon

i went to the "derby" on saturday night in Melbourne, it was quite good fun, but seeing as you're all talking about it can someone please tell me how the scoring works? i asked half a dozen people there and not one could explain it to me...

and another thing why don't they switch directions in second half or something like that... surely one leg gets a bit more sore than the other...

Scoring - Only 2 people can score points, They are called the Jammer (people with star panties on(helmet cover)) the whistle blows and the pack moves and the the 2nd whistle goes and the jammers go. They have to get through the pack and skate as fast as they can to get BACK through the pack. If they make it passed all the players on the other team they get 4 points (5 if they pass the other teams jammer) and then do the whole thing again until the Jam has finished (either 2 full mins or if the person who has the ref pointing at them (lead jammer) touches their hips) is that a bit confusing??

we skate the other way at training and both legs are sore and you don't notice one getting sorer then the other. but one of our coaches is a speed skater and he has been doing it for nearly 40 years and he doesn't notice any difference in leg size

Thanks for that, I was wondering why sometimes they got 4 and sometimes 5 points!
