I spend a lot of time at Point Danger near Coolongatta this time of the year watching whales--and see a lot of them.

Or if you want to go a bit further go to Byron Bay headland [I should have called it Cape Byron according to the next post].

Lennox Heads is brilliant, as is Cape Byron.
Always see plenty there (and dolphins), plenty of space too.

Mate the above posts plus, North Stradbroke Island (point lookout), Moreton Island (Cape Moreton), Harvey Bay. North Stradbroke is the pick in Moreton Bay for easy access. Check out big red cat they often have some good deals for return trips.

I'll second Straddie. Although the Gorge walk at Point Lookout is partially closed at the mo, it's still possible to see whales from the bit that's open. I was there at the weekend, but didn't see any whales, plenty of turtles around though.

Straddie is good for taking the Disco along the beach too.

Port Stephens is an excellent spot ... bit far though.

as far as point danger goes the whales often come inside the shark nets, so are often very close--but not all the time. they tend to go out at the mouth of the tweed, but may come back in close--not sure.

do not go whale watching when the sea is choppy. That makes them harder to spot.

I think this weekend will be out due to the weather
