I agree with John,, everything I've read says its a Concept only,,
they may release half a dozen of these before getting close to the real deal,,

though if the public goes wild over this one who knows,,

If the Defender has been for sale since 1947 it's news to LandRovers biggest fan,ME and would had been the the industrys best kept secret for over 40 years.

dont let the truth get in the way of a good story.....and dont let good engineering principles get into a vehicle that could be so much more...

To be fair, the words are Ben Foulds', the motoring journalist. He may be a clueless young upstart. Colin Green said: “If we get it wrong, we are messing up one of the industry’s biggest icons". I think we would all agree with that.

    Cheers

Does anyone know what the worldwide sales figures for the Defender series was for say year 2010? That Defender is a true Icon is arguable these days. And I doubt that too many new RangeRover/Disco buyers do so based on memories of seeing Series and Defender vehicles in old African Safari documentrys.
I also doubt that Defender has any chance of recapturing any decent market share that Rover surrendered to the Japanese from as far back as the mid 1970s. So for the relatively small numbers that Defender, still with a poor international reputation for overall reliability, will sell, does it really make sound business sense to keep it in production? My guess is that it will be axed, although my wish is that they will let some proper engineers have a go at redesigning it with decent strong driveline, mechanical difflocks and straight forward simple easy to field repair mechanicals. and a driving position suitable for normal sized humans, not undernourished 1950s era Poms of which i'm one.

basicly theres 2-3 types to choose from, and its alldown to the responce from the motor show, that is the make or brake for the new defender,

if they like it, will be made,, if not,, buy buy defender,
2/3 types to choose from, don't land rover make around 100 different configurations on the defender, plus the same again world wide for all manner of applications from other companies.
