The Southern Cross seems not bright
The moon is grey and heavy
Now that this man has lost his fight
T’was he that paid our levy.
He wore with pride the green and black
2 RAR and Australia are proud
Bravery this man did not lack
He did more than he had vowed
The roadside bomb, a cowards tool
Took away this young brave man
A son, a friend, a mate, an Aussie jewel
Fighting for Australia and Afghanistan
Standing proud and standing tall
For justice and for right
This man he gave us his all,
Think of him always as day turns into night
To his family, (I know it’s not enough) but Thanks I give for ever
I constantly pray for all his mates
I hope and pray all shall be returned safely together
As Private Matty LAMBERT, a Digger, stands picket at the pearly gates.
Rest in peace my friend
Take your place, and smile down at us mortal zeros
Because when it comes down to the point
You belong with legends and heroes.
