Selling up and buying a cherokee

as the title says, in the coming months, i am selling both of my discos, and all associated parts, and buying an XJ Jeep Cherokee

I need something i can rely on, and while i would like to believe it, for me, a discovery isn't it

    any thoughts?

i was playing around with one of those yesterday, the 4ltr auto, was pretty good offroad, very comfy on road. flicked mud everywhere , but drank fuel like it was free.
There was so much electrical stuff that was asking to break or get water in it. wires and connectors everywhere, that said everything electrical on it worked. although this was the first time it had been taken offroad.
he likes it, but ill stick with my series going out stockton in a few weeks to test it out there. and maybe wallaroo sooner

My neighbour down the road has just got a Jeep - it came with its own tow rope... I'm not joking! A quick search of the internet shows these have quite a few known issues as well. If you are that over working to keep a vehicle on the road, wouldn't you go for a... *sigh* Toyota - or other Jap brand? Jeez, that was hard to type. Personally I think you would be trading one problem for another...

I'm sorry to hear you have had so many problems with your Disco's, but there not all like that... And I certainly don't think buying a Jeep will be the end of your problems.

Horses for courses though - I hope you get a good run out of whatever you get.

    Cheers - Gav.

A young lady in town recently purchased a Wrangler after writing her 4.6 P38a off.
I did tease her for being disloyal to the green oval
I asked her how she liked it.ROUGH RIDE and uses HEAPS MORE FUEL was the reply.

Why post up asking for thought's? Sorry...don't get it. Are we meant to plead and beg you not to leave the green oval? What are you asking for or requiring? I drive a landy...would never drive anything else......my D2 is as reliable as they come....I see you drive a D1.....what a 15-20 yr old vehicle......issues come with the territory when driving vehicles that are old and most likely have a bucket load of km's on it. Don't mean to seem snarky....but I really don't get these "I'm leaving LR and buying something else" type of thread's. I mean...who cares??

    Regards

If you want reliability get EITHER the RR with the 3.0 bmw TD6 or the jeep with the merc 2.8 td flogged from the ML 270 or the grand cherokee with the 3.0td6 again a merc donk. A third option if you have 50K is a Amarok. Or you could buy a jap fridge and be reliably bored to death driving it.
Another option would be to buy a small car(maybe a subaru/mazda/VW turbo diesel to run forever) and save the disco for trips, that way you can seriously mod it to your taste.
