Davis Performance ECU upgrade feedback wanted

    Hi all,

I've been agonising over which ECU upgrade to get. I have the non-flashable (99) defender ECU. I'm Sydney based and impatient so I've subconsciously eliminated the inter-state based options but not ruled them out.

I'm leaning towards the Davis Performance upgrade. So far it's cheaper than the Sydney competition. I'm concerned about the quoted figures and whether it translates to running the engine and associated parts on the edge of reliability. The majority of upgrade options quote 110 kw after the upgrade. DP quote 140 kw.

I'd prefer to upgrade my own ECU, knowing its history and that it has worked for 340,000 kms trouble free. But I'm not married to the position.

I invite feedback on the DP chip, whether people are happy with the decision, not happy (and why). Any negative side effects that were not anticipated (ie breakages, exhaust gas temp going through the roof, over fuelling etc)

I also invite viable alternates that I can buy and fit in the next week (the truck is going in for other mods so I'd prefer to do it all in one hit).

Sorry if this topic has been flogged to death. A google search came up negative with regard to my question on the DP chip.

    cheers MLD

No direct experience with the DP chip.
All ECU upgrades bring higher EGT temps. Most will give a slight increase in the normal drving speed, but can easily exceed safe limits when pushed hard.
Claims that factory EGT are maintained throughout the driving range without additional mods are false

IMO ECU upgrade must include a Pyrometer/ EGT gauge, Upgrade intercooler.
most here are very happy with the upgrades done and would reccommend them.

It is easy enough to monitor you EGT and drive accordingly without the extras, but you will have moments where you need to back off due to high temps without them.
    cheers
