You bunch of snobs!!!
I loved my defender, and I still do love them.
BUT - they are horrible! Just like an old GT or GTS... They are awful, yet wonderful cars
All this talk of modular bodies, utilitarian etc..
Let's face it - few people chop up a defender... So modular doesn't matter. Plenty of people carve up Rangies and Discos which arent modular!

Looks like a Mini mated with a Pajero.
Have to agree with JDNSW, Let's see the stats - Engine, Chassis, Gearbox, Suspension etc.
....oh, and whether it has a wicked sub-woofer![]()
I think it might be a distraction from the real thing after all its only a picture.Im really hoping im not wrong, what were they thinking?
The defender is what it is (was).
The next generation just needs to be capable and dare I say comfortable!!!
Let's face it Puma owners are aplenty and the vehicle is not as utilitarian as the TD5 / TDi versions it replaced... Still boxy but removed from the previous...
Better plastic air, seats, dash...
But no vents!!!!! How dare they!
The next gen vehicle needs to reflect efficient building techniques. Better tolerances, improved build quality and consistency.
Let's face facts - The D4 *is* a modern Defender body..... Boxy and Squared off with some nice corners, and plenty of shine. ;-)

I would have to agree with Tombie.
Perhaps it is time we kiss the Defender good bye.
Land Rover appears less interested in Military sales and more interested in the luxury branding. Without the military demands, perhaps the Disco4 is the "evolution" of the civilian recreational Land Rover and anything they bring out to replace the defender will just be similar to what BMW did with the mini and Toyota did with the FJcruiser - a TRIBUTE to the original vehicle.
Maybe what we need is a more practical versions in the D4 range - no carpets, steel wheels, ute version, body protection, ......
I definitely agree, like most, that the Defender needs replacing, but that thing looks like an ugg boot. Worst front on a car ever.....
All they need to do is concentrate on retaining what we all love about the current Defender's bones ie great suspension, constant 4WD, narrow track, lightweight, simple and practical. And THEN design a modern exterior to complement it. That thing looks like some design student got confused whether he was designing a car or a new line of fashionable sneakers. That front is terrible. Don't mind from the front wheel back, but that front..... my GOD!
To me the most iconic part of the defender, the part that's made it through all these years is the front end. Round headlights with the park and blinker as separate round units. Not hard to re-create. They have actually done it with the lights on the latest rangey, similar concept, but modern. Land Rover have always been about straight lines and simple design. This looks more like a Hyundai style design. Like a surprised lizard.........
Sorry for ranting but I was really hoping that Land Rover wouldn't stuff this up. But me no likey.
