    Getting your car engineered.......

i just want to pass on a bit of info i heard today from a friend who is waiting to have his car engineered for some mods......

his engineer told him.....that as of the 29th september 2011......one engineer will no longer engineer all the mods......
you will need to find an engineer that specialises in brakes if you modify your brakes.....
one that specialises in steering if you modify your steering......
and so on......which means you will need to run around a hell of a lot......

    but wait....theres more.......!!

IF.......you have more than say 7 modifications......it will need to be engineered in the current year....with the current adrs......
so...if you want to register your old mustang which has been converted to right hand drive.....
had the suspension, engine, steering, exhaust, wheels, tyres, etc,..........modified.....
it will need to comply with the current adr rules........which means things like airbags, pollution, etc.......

i havent heard anything more definite........so if you are in this process.....i suggest you make a few phone calls to your engineer
    and find out for sure........

just thought i would pass this on.......

here are a couple of links......at least the dates are spot on to what ive heard.......

So multiple modifications requiring multiple engineers to inspect them will also presumably incurr multiple $ 800-1000 fees?
I hope the engineers are financially independent from inspecting modified vehicles, because only the rare few very dedicated and or wealthy vehicle enthusiasts will be their clients.
Now what is the most offroad capable and reliable 'off the peg' vehicle I can buy?

    but...

Tertiary qualifications are not mandatory, but do provide
the typical path into the industry. Most certifiers would
have a degree, diploma or certificate IV in a relevant
discipline such as engineering or the automotive field.

means that people like me can become certifiers and that as per the current nanny state requiems The insurance is the big one.
