Well let me tell you that at a store level are usually informed of these sales only 1 maybe 2 days prior to it actually happening, absolutely no way to be prepared stockwise. many a time i have been whatching nightly tv only to find out there is a sale starting at my work the following day. so before you all take it out on the sales people and the stores, and accuse them of being untruthful, think about those who have to put up with the same complaint everytime head office drops a sale with no notice.
Your point is taken, and just for the record, I was polite on every call, and only ever said, "Ok thanks. Just wanted to check."

A bit of research, and it appears that the AMD processors are on their way out, and there is something new on its way in. Just in time for Christmas...

I too know what it is like to be on the receiving end of irate customers, and dont take it out on the sales staff.

My biggest gripe is with HN head-office. The fact that they can appear to bend the rules for advertising, Trades Practices & the ACCC really gets up my goat.

After I decided not to purchase a laptop there, I had a quick look around the store, as I am after a new external hard-drive. Plenty of stock, huge range, but their prices are so much higher than the computer store down the road.

I wasn't going to pay a premium for something that I can get at another local store at a much better price. And this is all without even starting to look on Evil Bay and the likes.

never seen an add for Rivers ? they actually tell you even though they are advertising you might not get your item.
heaps of companies advertise like that, Supercheap, BCF, JB, Goodguys, all the main franchise groups are run the same way from what i can see.
its an unfortunate part of this capitalist world we all live in.

this is another opinion that annoys me, sorry to keep targeting you,

but hey, its a CLEARANCE sale, isn't the idea to CLEAR stock?, so if they run out, hasn't it worked ?

when the HP Tablet was cleared out there were all sorts of complaints about not having enough stock to meet the demand, well the idea was to clear them out, that's what a clearance sale is. you miss out, too bad, sorry as harsh as that sounds.

again sorry don't take that as a personal attack.

people want everything for nothing, and as seen on another thread here in the last day or 2, noone wants to work for nothing yet expect retail shops and particularly there staff to perform miracles when we all know how ordinary retail wages are

    the old retail saying
"you can give a customer a product for free and they will still complain about having to carry it out the store"

    No offence taken...

I understand what you are saying about a clearance sale, however, this hasn't been advertised as such.

All they have said is that it is a " 2 for 1 offer on all laptops with AMD processors"

My biggest beef is that large retailers quite often have a very limited amount of stock, if any at all, of a particular item they are selling at a good price / deal or whatever, and they "sell out" very quickly. Then, when they have you in the door, they will try and upsell you to something more expensive.

This is called, "bait advertising" and is prohibited under the TPA.

It is a lot like the Persian rug sellers that have a closing down sale every week for 2 years straight.

and yet only 1 or 2 posts prior you mentioned that the amd processors are on there way out according to your research

p.s. terms and conditions as advertised
"* Personal shoppers only. Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer. Brands and models may vary from store to store. No Rainchecks. Free laptop must be of equal or lesser value. In the case of the return of the original purchase, free laptop must also be returned. if not in resellable condition, the free laptop must be purchased at the ticketed price."
so no bait advertising there sorry

hehe, and as for the rug sellers closing down sales, well yeah, thats a farce,
along with Copper Art closing down sale that lasted for near a year before they actually closed down.

sorry, but there's 2 things that really annoy me on sales like this.
people coming in and complaining about stock availability, when its pretty obvious in these econiomic times noone wants to carry much stock,
the other one is that probly 50% or maybe even more people will come in and ask for a better deal, or some freebies thrown in, knowing well that these are already under cost, but not knowing that everytime a salesman sells any product under cost, it comes out of there commission. So what salesman in there right mind would try and sell these when all it is doing is reducing there take home pay packet. many people will just laugh when you mention that, obvioulsy selfishly caring about themselves only and none other. so of course the sales guys are going to try and talk you into a profitable item.

must admit, as I was purchasing my emachines cheapo laptops, some other guy barged in on me, as I had been waiting about 10 mins as there was lots of people trying to get cheap laptops, and gave a sob story about being on a break from work, well so was I but I figured its quicker to let him get what he wants than argue, and so while the sales guy was off getting 4 cheapo laptops, two for me and two for this other guy, I say to him, "pretty good value, great for the kids, and it might play a game or two, but will be fine for homework email and internet browsing" and he then asks me if I know about pc's, I say a little, and then he starts asking me why it wouldn't play games and whats the difference between this one and the $1800 one in front of us. Then when the sales guy comes back he asks if he can have two bags thrown in and seems rather unhappy when the guy says no. Some people do want everything for nothing I guess, I figured two full size laptops for $498, no point trying to haggle.
