    The joys of moving!

Moving house has got to be the most stressful part of human existence - bar of course family/friends deaths or divorce!

The worst part of this move is that it has to be in two stages: From Armidale to near Tumbarumba in three weeks time, then from Tumba to somewhere in Victoria in about mid June next year. The place in Tumba is already furnished, so Tulip won't need any of our stuff from this house.

I'm going to be temporarily staying in Melbourne for the next 33 weeks, whilst Tulip and Treadette stay with her dad in the Snowy's. We'll take turn about visiting on weekends

We're working out the pro's, con's and cost of four different options for the move:
    1) Removalist, then storage in Tumba/Wagga/Albury/etc, then on to Vic
    2) Hire truck, then storage in Tumba/Wagga/Albury/etc, then on to Vic
    3) Storage in Armidale, then move the lot to new place in Vic
    4) Purchase shipping container, move it to Tumba, then move it again to Vic

I think my head is going to explode!

    advice?

Buy a container, it may be the only time you have an excuse to purchase a great transportable shed.
A 20' box would no doubt be cheaper than the storage costs too.
Your possessions only need to be handled once, reducing the chance of damage.
Get proffessionals to pack your gear for the above reasons.

Good luck, glad it's you, not me.

Having been there and done that, I agree with Ian and wished this is what I had done, double handling of trailers not withstanding

    Hi Treads,
when I moved from NSW central cost to QLD, I used a removalist from Caloundra, they packed my gear into a 20' container, and stored it in their yards, for small weekly fee, until I bought my house. (about 6 weeks)
They then brought the container to my new place and unpacked everything as normal.
    Excellent service.

    regards
    Brian

    I feel your pain.

We're moving from the UK to Melbourne at the moment. House contents went into a 40ft container on the 8th September, went onto a boat at Southampton on the 16th and left on the 18th. Since then the boat's been into Europe and back, when I checked on Friday it was just passing the Isle of Wight *again*, a week after leaving

Anyway, wife is now in Mordialloc, dog is in Melbourne quarantine, I'm still in the UK until the 6th October. We both have 2 holdalls of clothes to last until our container arrives at the end of Oct / early November. The move's been very stressful, but at least she's managed to rent us a house in Parkdale that we can have from the 15th October, we're just hoping the boat doesn't get too delayed now !!

    Thanks for the replies

I've priced a container and can get one from Coffs Harbour for about $3k. Moving it to Tumba will put us back about another $2k

    Know the pain well.....

25yrs in the Army, only had to move house 16times....and moved once again after that. Believe me, you have my sympathy.
Be known for what you did. Not, for what you bought.

Unless prices have skyrocketed recently that's a bit dear.

We're now thinking of going with option 3 - storing everything here ($1.7k cost), then moving it all in one hit once I get posted to my initial station. I have a heavy vehicle license, so I can rent a decent sized truck.
