Yes, fiction is probably going to be impossible to overcome. I guess you would have to have more energy being generated by the movement than is being consumed by the same movement. However, they don't seem to be able to get electric cars to generate and store more power than they consume.
I wonder if, in space, once you get something moving the lack of friction is such that it would just keep moving forever (unless it hit something)?

Politicians ended this search years ago. They found it.

This of course depends on your definition of forever. The universe won't last forever.

Also in space if you did hit something no one would hear you scream

Yes, that's true. This is how satellites travel so far and for so long, they kick them off in a very well calculated course and speed, and then gravity from everything they pass close to is the only thing that affects their line.

    A Lada works, a hiclone doesn't.

about 12 years ago I tested some (hiclones) for a mate who had been approached to become an agent. Fitted one to SWMBO's Navara, and at various intervals removed and/or replaced it. She had no idea it was there.
Made little noticeable difference, excepting that at odd times she would complain that the Nav "seems a bit gutless" These complaints coincided with the gadget being fitted at the time.
We also fitted one to my Truck, with again no difference, apart from needing to be re-tuned when fitted, and again when removed.
This re-tuning lurk is where we decided the advertised gains come from. Most vehicles seem to need to be re-tuned after fitment, but most likely a tune-up without fitting the hiclone would achieve the same results as those claimed from fitting same ... ... huh ... ummm .... yeah ...

... and I still have my Lada.

I have a mate who foolishly puts acetone in his Patrol. Been trying to explain to him that BP, Shell act hire real scientist to develop fuels, and that back yard alchemist tend to do major damage. But then there has been crap getting made for so called improvements for years now. Best fuel saver is your right foot.
