Yes not good news at all..
Our condolences to your family John
My family has a long term (mid eighties) friend in Melbourne. We have not heard from, or been able to contact him, for weeks, and after discussion among members of the family, today, when in Dubbo, I put in a missing persons report as he lived alone and is estranged from his family.
While I was having dinner a policewoman knocked on the door.
Victoria police broke into his house today and found he had been dead for some time. I have no further information, I am waiting on a call back from the Police.

Not the best to pass and have days go by before someone has to break in to find the body.
John, at least your family was thinkng of your friend and you were able to raise some action. Someone cared.

That is so very sad!
It should be a reminder to us all, that if we have elderly neighbours we should all make an effort to regularly check their welfare.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
He was not that elderly - fifties. But has mentioned several times that he had outlived his father! He acted as a doting uncle to my grandchildren, so you can imagine how they feel. (Eldest is still here with me - school holidays still in ACT, plus she has a broken leg.)

Sorry to hear John. Not good.
Your story reminds me of a neighbour whose #1 goal was to be the first person ever in his family/ancestry to live until 60. He died a few days before his 60th.
Very sad to hear that John. At least he had someone thinking of him. Way too young to go.

G'day JDNSW
I am sorry to hear of your family's friend passing away, as we too, have several single elderly friends of long standing which we try to keep in contact with for just that reason, as we lost one of ours a few years ago, died in his sleep in his caravan (heart failure),he was my BMW motorcycle mentor, and work mate for several years and was a WW11 veteran (German) and had a very hard life between 1939-1946. from 45-46 at the hands of the US army, before migrating to Aust in 51 as a displaced person.
cheers
