Depends if it rains!
I drove a VW Type 3 into Central Station, Lake Mckenzie the day after a storm.
I would think the biggest problem is meeting tourist buses on uphill sections, or any narrow section for that matter.

Hi All,
Not sure where i could ask this so general chat it is!
I am planning a trip next year in Feb/Mar to Fraser Island, at the moment i am planning on taking my camper, we will be in the 130, I am familiar with the island and not concearned about towing it on the beach front and indian head track shouldnt be much of an issue, i am keen to camp on the western side of the island again over near awinya creek but i am a little worried about towing the camper across the inland track from Kgari to awinya or bowardy... Has anyone done this? i dont remember the track being particulary difficult but i remember it was a little bit of a climb which could be tricky with the camper. There is a chance i will have my v8 county along with us to in which case i am not worried about towing it, but the loaded up 130 towing the camper may struggle if i dont have the county for it.
Also whats Fraser like that time of year, we will be getting on the island around 27-28 feb and staying till around the 15-16th of march.

Mate, you should be fine...have camped the western side many a time...with fellow club members towing trailers.

Stevo
you will do it easy
i just spent 10 days at awinya during the september school holidays
there was a group of us but none got stuck and we were all loaded up
some places were a little sandy but even my mate in a hyundi terrecan did it easy
the road is a little rough in places but nothing to hard
we did a day trip to indian head and champagne pools and got through at wathumba at low tide but had to come back on the kgari road
we had perfect weather with little wind but had lots of day trippers as the wind was strong on the east coast
we camped 100 meters up from where the awinya track meets the creek
my kids love it there and with very little traffic they can play on the beach or go for a swim in the creek
plenty of whales and if your keen on fishing worms were the best bait for fresh whiting for breakfast
enjoy
You'll be fine, I towed on Fraser and had no problem, much better sand to drive on than Stockton.
Baz.
Cheers Baz.

Exactly - whether it rains makes all the difference. QPWS does not run the delver across that section of track very often. They do from the beach into the Knifeblade Sandblow semi-regularly but can't go much further west as the tree roots and narrow sections make it difficult.
Tour bus-wise there aren't any of the larger Kingfisher buses that go in from K'gari as the can't get into Lake Allom (narrow sections). So the only buses you're likely to encounter are smaller ones.
that dont use the moon point barge anymore so traffic on the east west road is pretty light
we were there in school holidays and traffic wasnt a bother
No to concearned about the tracks once i am up near lake allom, just the climb leading up to there, also the climb coming back up from awinya creek but we will probobly go back through bowardy on the way back as its much flatter.
Has anyone towed a decent size camper up from Kgari past lake allom before? its a Kimberly Kamper platinuum, weighs in about 750kg unloaded so its fairly hefty.
