Aaaarrrrgh... what a mess! Sorry for you, mate. Nice idea, though, having a test run before assembling everything. I'll keep that in mind when the time comes for me to do that job.

I am doing the timing belt on my 300TDI. I spent a fair bit of time double checking that all was lined up correctly. When I was satisfied all was good I thought I would run it for 30 seconds to make sure all sounded ok before continuing.
I have the radiator out so I got a piece of hose to join the two engine oil hoses together. I started the engine and just as I got around to the front to have a look the hose blew off one end.
By the time I got back to the key I reckon it must have pumped about half a litre of oil. Apart from the mess of dirty black diesel oil all over the concrete it sprayed a huge amount all over my nice new timing belt.
I can't repeat the words that came from my mouth.
