It’s been confirmed. Adelaide really does rock. Or did. To the tune of 3.4 on the Richter Scale.
I thought I’d fill you in on the standard Adelaide Earthquake Procedure, or AEP.
1 - The first thing you need to do is immediately update all forms of social media, such as Twitter, Facebook etc with “ADELAIDE ROCKS! I SURVIVED EARTHQUAKE 2011!!!!” or something similar. Make sure you add at least three exclamation points to said update to ensure everyone knows that you’re super excited to have felt it when so many others missed it.
2 - Spend the rest of the day discussing it with everyone, from your workmates and family / roommates, to total strangers at the supermarket. Details about what you heard, what you felt and where you were are mandatory in these discussions. Please use terms such as “freight train” “loud truck” or “deep rumble”.
3 - Expect discussions for the remainder of the week, however as the week progresses you must demonstrate your cool factor by making it clear that you were not at all freaked out, excited or concerned when it hit. This shows street cred in the highest order.
4 - If you have previously experienced an earthquake, you must make sure to let everyone know immediately and then discuss how this earthquake was “soooo weak” in comparison. Continue to mention this every time this recent quake is discussed.

One of the Kiwi islands have a 7.6-magnitude earthquake today morning![]()
I'm starting to get a little nervous, there have been Quakes all around the Pacific Rim lately, seems to be a lot more activity than usual. Or could it just be we are more aware of them since the big Japanese one. I really hope nothing happens in California, that doesn't bear thinking about. Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
At least the local council over there might manage to re-build in a reasonable timeframe.
There's still buildings in Boulder that are condemmed and barricaded off with bugger all attempt to repair them from the Boulder quake a couple of years ago.
But then I suppose that's councils for ya. Obviously none of the "elected" councillors owns any of the damaged buildings.
We recently sold a house in Christies Beach - wonder if it's still standing ..............................
Cheers .........
