Welcome to the forum
Hopefully someone will help you out![]()
Hi All on AULRO
As with most who post here I have just joined your forums. But I am not a landrover owner. I'm actually a cyclist. So whats the connection I hear you ask.
BTW I hope this request does not breach forum guidelines, if it does I apologise and will happily remove the thread.
Last month (sept 2011) I competed in the Simpson Desert Bike Challenge, where I came 8th overall and 3rd in age group (under 50's) Unfortunately the great pity with the 2011 event, which was the 25th running of the event, was that we did not get to cross the desert as it had been closed due to fires, so instead we raced from Oodnadatta up to Charlotte waters in the NT then back to Dalhousie springs then back to Oodna again (600 klm) although this route was also interupted by fire during the event, in the end we only completed 466 klms of racing.
I am currently planning my 2012 ride in this event and I am looking to meet a keen 4wder with a suitable vehicle who would be interested in being my crew. The usual route used to cross the desert is west to east starting at Purnie Bore and using the rig road to the K1 then south on K1 to the warburton crossing to the birdsville track then north up the inside track to finish infront of the birdsville pub. If the warburton crossing is still closed in 2012 the alternate is to go north on the K1 past poepels corner then east on the QAA, crossing Eyre creek and over little red into Birdsville.
If anyone is interested please let me know and I will send you a pm with my contact details so we can discuss what the crew is expected to do plus fiscal arrangements.
More information can be found on the challenges website Simpson Desert Bike Challenge, Australia the 2011 report is up with plenty of photos so you can see what the event is about, plus there are many links to information for riders and crew.
The challenge also supports the Royal Flying Doctor Service and this year we raised over $36000 for the RFDS.
Thanks everyone for your time, I hope to hear from someone soon

Thank you both for your welcome, I hope to hear something soon so that I can get my preparation underway.
I might post this in the general forum just to cover most members
Hi AULRO members
I'm sorry if this thread seems like spam, but it is a serious request for any interested SYdney members.
Per my post in the intro section http://www.aulro.com/afvb/introducti...g-simpson.html
I'm am looking for a Sydney or surrounds based member who is interested in doing a Simpson desert crossing with a difference.
The difference is, being a support crew for my 2012 SDBC attempt. Simpson Desert Bike Challenge, Australia
If this is something you would be interested in doing can you please send me a PM and I will happily contact you and discuss arrangements.
Thanks to everyone for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you

you may be limiting your options by asking for only sydney people, maybe someone in SA or somewhere could be of help
cheers

bblaze, I had considered that, however in the 2011 event (that we have just completed) I used an SA based crew and found that getting properly organised became a problem due to the distance, hence some of our race needs were not properly catered for.
Therefore I would like to use a Sydney or at least a NSW or ACT based crew so that we can get together a few times proir to the 2012 event and get to know each other and be able to communicate and organise things face to face.
cheers
Murray
