What's the difference between a Yank and an Aussie?

Heard on the news that there is a proposed shark cull in WA.
When an Aussie get's taken, "it's suck it up son, the great white are a protected species"
When a Yank gets taken " we need to do a shark cull.
Sharks travel long distances, so how many blameless sharks will get culled before the right one is caught.
We invade their domain and when we get bitten, it's the bad killer sharks fault.
Go figure

Actually the Great White is endangered while homo-sapiens are in plague proportions. If anything needs culling it is the people!

I agree the shark is a protected species, however we may have a rogue that has developed a taste for humans and is a bit concerning in heavily populated swimming beaches.
Not too sure of the answer, but a shark cull is not the right course of action.

The old divers line of “When you enter the sea, you enter the food chain... and not at the top...” unfortunately rings very true.

Mindless and indiscriminate killing of an number of predators to appease the minds of tourists remains a tragedy though...

I don't think there is a 'right one' to catch. There sharks. It's what they do. They're on the top end of the food chain and if they see something else in the water, they assume they can consume it.

The amount of people we loose from shark deaths are low, especially in comparison with road fatalities. The governments not going on a culling on vehicles now!

We as human kill plenty of other species, were not being culled... Human beings kill plenty of other human beings, and we don't even give the death penalty to them that should know better!

He was also near a seal colony I believe???

I've heard that he was spearfishing by himself.

I surf and I do alot of spearfishing, and do quite a bit out in deep water. I've seen plenty of sharks, including a 4.5m white (that was the most beautiful and humbling moment I've ever had in the water). I've only ever had one shark act aggressively towards me and it was a bull shark after one of my fish. When you eneter the water you are entering their domain, and you do so at your own risk. If you don't like that, go swim in a pool.

Think of how many people swim/surf/dive/play in the ocean around australia every year. Compare that to the number of shark attacks we have in a year. Pretty good odds if you ask me.

I might be wrong but the last I heard they hadn't even identified the species shark from the last attack, so how do they know which shark "is to blame"... Culling sharks isn't going to solve anything.

If your far enough north and you swim in a river and get eaten by a croc all the locals shake their heads and say idiot.

Down south if someone gets taken by a shark "cull the sharks cull the sharks"

different attitudes and outlooks on life I guess or cheap media beat up

Pretty much eveyone on here has the northener attitude (or maybe it an attitude from before the nanny state mentality)
