Why are parts so overpriced in Australia?

Its not just car parts that are cheaper o/seas... My medications (4 scrips per month) cost me $120+ locally.

Buying over the net is $45 which includes $8.00 postage.

The government saves around $220 or so. Most made in India, all from 'brand' names, - and work perfectly.

.As for viscous couplings, quoted $1200 to $1800 by various Oz suppliers, under $750 from England. Including shipping.

.Being a pensioner now, I can't afford the luxury of supporting inefficient business, governments or greedy 'Big Pharma'...:mad:

Call Karcraft in Silverwater, you may be pleasantly surprised at the pricing, and the service is excellent ;)

Another local alternative is BMI at Mulgrave, although I've never dealt with them.

It's notworthcomplaining, if you want to invest the most safe option is the buy big 4 bank shares as with the franking(tax) already paid you will get a higher return than putting it in the bank, dividends have been around the 1-2% higher mark than they pay on money you put in their accounts:(
Quite a few people like yourself got scammed by one of the local investment advisors telling them to invest in a group(called trio) with supposed 12-15%returns that was paying him secret commisions and dissapeared with hundred's of millions:mad:

Ok so I'll admit to this week having pruchased some stuff from Brit Parts - more fool me.......


So which non genuine LR parts manufacturers would you advise to use and which UK or US online sellers would you recommend?

I too am a Veterinary Surgeon (I dislike the yank term:D). I have bought parts from Rimmer Brothers in the UK for years, excellent service, usually get things within a week. My last purchase (3 weeks ago) was a set of Bilsteins for the D2, AUD 452 delivered in 5 days instead of AUD 1200 in 3 weeks locally.

Can somebody tell me why there is such a Big difference in Price, for the same Part, when Buying in Australia. When every Bussiness has the same excuse?:D

I used to use BMI with great pricing and overnight courier (delivered by 8:15am mostly, for only $8) but a year or so back management changed and they no longer sell to "us" at good prices unless you run a tab of $1000 plus per month.
Silverwater is much closer so Karcraft will get a tryout soon.

that is the big issue here. the problem is that most aussies don't care about our future,
or our foreign debt level ( import more than you export then there's more money going out of the country than in )
or the unemployment level ( local business close due to overseas competition )
or the fact that if we continue this way the governement will not have enough tax income to pay for essential services ( less local business means less employment which means less tax income for govt )

we seem to only care about the own back pocket. the only time we care is if there is a disaster ( floods are a good example ) then our generosity is incredible.
its a shame people can't see past there own back pocket for a second and look at this disaster that is coming our way head-on and try and steer us away from it.

no?, lets just continue buying direct overseas and lets just watch the band as they play while this big juggernaught sinks.

for years and years Dick Smith has been trying to get us to buy Australian for exactly this reason. and Dick Smith is an Australian legend, yet how did he make his fortune ? by importing and selling products at .... wait for it.... a profit to the likes of you and me...... shame on him for being such a capitalist :p

shame we don't have him in federal politics, although he would probably get shouted down

The reason that parts are expensive in Australia is the business model that operates here. Many businesses would rather throw something into the scrap bin before they offer a substantial discount on it. Years ago I had more to do with wrecking yards. It was (and probably still is) near impossible to get stuff cheaper than 1/2 retail price, wreckers would rather fill sims bins with parts than risk a visit from the rival business down the road they were undercutting.

A bloke I knew who worked in truck spares told me how they treated Ford F100 parts customers. "They're idiots. We work out our price and double it. They pay anyway." Middle manager's attitude for the general public is appalling. Companies with such attitudes won't get my custom and they deserve to go under. Unemployed staff have to make do with less pay to get another position. Middle managers will always get another job ruining another company in pursuit of the great Aussie business model. It's short term balance sheet targets that get approved, by bean counters.
