Good luck mate.....We used to manage on one wage(mine) so the Missus could be a stay at home mum, but with spiralling living costs on the Sunny Coast I'm looking to get back into my old job (Offshore Marine Construction) which I specialised in back in the Uk. It's always a sacrifice having to work away from family and friends but a lot of us are forced into it. Once again good luck....
Dave
Good luck mate hope all gos well..
Dirtdawg,
I hope that everything stays on the rails and goes according to plan..
If everything stays on track, Im sure you'll get signals as to the next job as well so that can be good.
Be careful as we all know on some worksites people can go loco and before you know it people are shunting each other about.
Its important to remember, your carraige (the way you carry yourself) can set an example for others. Still at least you know your timetable for the next few years. Even if you didnt like it you could switchback.
This kind of job can bolster your qualifications and provide great ballast from which to move in the future, coupling that with the 'networking' you can do in your individual stations (yeah we've all heard that old line) and it could create quite a buffer towards keeping your caboose in a job!
It will be up to you to guage how wide your chances are to make tracks into this job, anyway I'm sure you have seen the points I was making...Its up to you to choose the route you take, a sleeper who just works and goes home or someone out there sorting out those bogies as they come up one by one...
OK thats all of them I can think of off hand.... (sorry!)
What I really mean is, good luck in your new job!

You forgot to ask about training![]()
welcome dirtdawg. I'm in Emerald. If you havent organised accommodation, DO IT NOW. accommodation here is atrocious, especially rentals. If you are going to purchase a home its a little easier. but its a serious warning I'm giving you, dont come here expecting to be able to find a place to live. Its nice here 33-35c days, cool mornings. Havent looked at the 4wd scene yet but theres a club here and one or two in Rocky. Good fishing and boating/skiing out on the lake. fuel prices and shopping are same as south. btw there is plenty new happening in rail/pipeline/mining/industrials here for next 20-30yrs.
Hey Digger.....its not happening like that up here.... the companies are seriously into zero harm in any area. No drugs, alcohol, bullying, sexism(you can hardly find a stickbook out on site), fatigue management is genuine, usually 60hr max weeks, short cycles...ie no longer than 6-7days straight. The attitude everywhere is happy , no bad manners.....you just dont see it. Everyone helps everyone. The wild west days are gone. If someone "faulters" genuine help is provided. I know this sounds a little soft but its the practise now.....go to work fresh and happy come home safe and happy.
no rental for me its a camp job, and were doing 12 hrs a day for 14 then 1 day off then another 14 then ill come home for a week, im just there for the earthworks thats my area as soon as the ballast is down and there ready for rail we are off to the next one
Hey Dawg have fun mate and dont forget to let us know when ur back in town from time to time so we can drag you out on a run, If I head to Qld for a holiday I'll let ya know so we can catch up.
All the best mate and take care
