Allianz Car Insurance - Good - Bad

I have been with AAMI since 1994 for my car insurance, made two claims in that time and all has been good until now. Because of a two day gap in my insurance late last year they have dropped me from Diamond level back to Platinum so instead of getting 15% off, I only get 2.5%. Perfectly legal for them to do that but in view of my history a bit rich - I also have my house and contents with them.

My comprehensive insurance is now due so am looking at alternatives - most companies are too expensive and will only give a low value on my car.

Allianz offers a very competitive policy that is the cheapest by far and they will insure it for my agreed value (using the same amount offered by AAMI) - they will not accept any car that has been modified - accessories are OK.

So what are the experiences with Allianz - any major issues?

I know of a standard Defender where the owner changed the rear sliding windows to lift up windows and Allianz cancelled the insurance on the spot when the owner advised them of the change.

    Cheers

I have a number of policies with Allianz and all has been good to date.

House was damaged within weeks of the policy and no problem with the claim.
My wife had an 'at fault' motor vehicle and no problem of note, slight delay getting a booking at the assesment centre but all settled quickly.

I rang them to clarify off-road use and accessories on the D3, no problem.
Added our 18 y/o to one of the policies, no problem and given other stories I have heard, a reasonable rate.

Most insurance companies when your a new customer will give you agreed value, then when renewal time comes along they seem to sneak the market value into the policy.
try Shannons, I think they are underwritten my allianze

Have heard good things about them, they are insuring my county - but TPP only as its modified.

My other car is Shannons.. they are really good too and have local staff who I can call and talk to. They didn't used to insure common cars.. don't know if that has changed.

Allianz were all good for us, and we have:
3 houses, 2 cars, Caravan and a boat with them. I reversed my navara into a tree and they wrote it off really quick and paid out fully. My only problem was we'd finally agreed to go market value which was a lot less than agreed which I thought we'd agreed on, but they were right. They paid out and all good. Suprisingly they didn't even ask any questions considering I reversed it into a tree, at night, on a shooting trip. I fully expected the full deal on whether I'd been drinking etc but had no issues. The allianz assessor even called to negotiate what the market value was and I upped him a good 25% on what he wanted to pay initially, but was all amicable and fine.

We do our insurances through a broker who compares providers each time we renew, and we don't worry about so called loyalty cos really it doesnt exist! We go with the cheapest who can provide all we need really.

Good. The D3 was and the D4 is insured with Allianz. Had 3 claims with them over the years (none my or the Mrs fault) with no dramas.

Allianz it is then - thanks for the responses. Shannons might be competitive for classic insurance but not for modern daily runners - nearly double the price of Allianz.

I guess you don't need any more confirmation but I'll give you some anyway

We have had no problems with them. I have used them for the past 3 years on both cars - only one claim and that was for a new windscreen on the D2 (I get one free windscreen a year) - they organised it all very quickly - basically one phone call and everything was sorted - the windscreen people arrived at my work and did it all in the carpark.

The only changes they have done to my policy is to lower my no-claims bonus - easy to deal with when buying a new car - one phone call, cover note faxed from them to the car dealer and drive off the lot.

I am happy with them - and you know I'm not easy to please.

Ive worked for a few insurers over the years mainly in product and pricing, and Allianz were one of them, Whilst i wouldnt hesitate to use them they are very strict on you complying with the terms of the policy and arent as relaxed around things like uninsured drivers as for example NRMA are.

If you are a good boy, and dont do anything outside their guidelines you shouldnt have a drama.

After working in the industry all my houses, and contents are with Allianz, cars are all with NRMA and NRMA vintage and veteran.

Dont get to caught up on loyalty discounts and protected no claims etc as allot of it is very misleading, even not at faults will 100% affect your risk factor ie.the policy will say you are getting a discount but the extra risk will already be factored into the premium.

Got my D2 insured agreed value, they were cheaper then others, I suppose it depends on your post code too, if your area is on a particular insurance comps books as being a high claim area then they up the price.
Happened to us with Suncorp with the house, since the bush fires our policy trebled, so we left them.
