I drove that cup weekend and with all the rain we had it wasn't flowing that high. Great vid love the body language when the water starts coming in. Note to self. Shut all external vents before crossing deep rivers. Check

Sounds like you both had a great time, wet feet and all!
Crossing the Jardine River in 1979 I used the air vents to clamp down on the tent at the top and tied it to the axle housing at the bottom. No snorkels in those days. Note the vacuum cleaner hose on the exhaust pipe.
You're not the first person to forget to close the air vents. Reminds me of the (pre air-conditioning) time travelling up the west coast in summer, 3 across the front of the SIIA, hand throttle set, air vents open, feet up on dash with air flow up our shorts. Pure bliss until we hit a swarm of cicadas.
Damm dangerous these air vents!

You went across at a fairly brisk pace. What gear/range were you in? Is that the sort of pace you should use? I ask as someone who doesn't know. I've done some crossings but not that deep. It reminds me my car is much more capable than I think it is (if driven right) in case of emergency.
I was in 2nd low bearing in mind I have 49% crawler gears in it as well. It was the speed & power of the river which was a concern more so than the depth.
