    Jag in the demo derby.

March 10th I'll be entering my 1st demolition derby. I'll post up some progress pictures as the car gets prepared, but here's the starting point.

Ron (p38arover) saw the car yesterday and didn't seem very impressed.

I'd only enter that if you were doing a Demo with a restarters end. If you've never heard of that, its when after the first round everyone has 10-20 minutes to get their cars restarted and moving again. Points are awarded for how quickly you get restarted VS how long you lasted in the first round. Best effort I saw in one was a young chap in a volvo He got done over very quickly in the first round got shunted out of the way and in the restart all he did was open the bonnet, bypass the inertia cut out and restart it. He won the restart and after he went up and explained what happened they made an idiot of the match trophy on the spot for him. Smart enough to realise the inertia stop switch had put him out of a demo derby, not smart enough to work that out while he was preparing the car.

Will give you some tips, I used to do a few demo derbys.

The Jag is perfect to smash but everone will hate you for having the best car there, its like painting a big target on yourself.

1 Get an electric waterpump , Ditch the engine belt, you dont want anything spinning around up front.

2 Weld the diff up, we used to call them CIG Lockers

3 Weld a pece of chain across the engine & tranny mounts

4 Loosen the engine up - sprinkle a cup of bon-ami down the intake
will run longer once you loose coolant

5 Put straight gycol in - no water.

6 put some PTFE in the engine,
it will stuff the engine in the long run but might stop it siezing if it overheats

6 if you can get away with it fill the doors with cement.

    7 have fun

Not much. A bit of rust, tired interior. I saved it from the crusher at a scrap metal place, to give it a slightly better life.

Never heard of a restarters demo derby Dave, the only rules I am aware of is last car running wins.

with a restarters, usually the very best you can hope for is a strong second place or winning the restart. Its usually done so that people who have been knocked out by something stupid simple early on (battery lead comes off for example) can get a decent run in.

I have heard tell of one guy who got the tail end badly destroyed on a front wheel drive vehicle (was faced into the wall and couldnt get it out) his team mates went and borrowed a 21 Inch petrol cut off saw from a retailer at the show got the thing dragged off of the wall and then cut the tail end off behind the back of the roll cage, he drove around with no ability to reverse with just the front 3/4 of the car. The original first place winner handed the cup and cash over for the sheer ballsyness of the plan.

Being in a car whilst it was totalled in a matter of 2-3 seconds is an experience I'd not care to repeat...and it was not a "derby"...
Why you would put yourself in harm's way to risk internal organ / skeletal / whiplash damage as well as a risk of being incinerated if the unthinkable happened is beyond me...
