Hi All on the forum. I am in the process of rebuilding my LT95 box and transfer case out of my 1981 Stage One V8 Truck Cab. I just wanted any feed back on possible improvements or mods for the LT 95 before I order any replacement parts. I have heard that there is a military specification for the box and transfer case that is more robust than the standard issue. Is this true and what is different if this is the case?
I am also fitting a new 3.9 litre V8 as well with a Stage One cam and possibly a 4 barrell inlet manifold to run a Carter 500cfm carburetta. Will also fit exhaust extracters for easier breathing. Would be interested in any suggestions on my choice of mods to the engine as well. I haven't purchased any of the parts as yet but will be doing so in the next couple of weeks.
I am hoping that the new 3.9 with these mods will give a noticable improvement in power over the standard 3.5 litre V8 running a 2 barrel Holley 350 cfm carby.
Look forward to your input.
There are no mods for the gearbox itself other than oil migration from the transfer rectification. There is a modification for the transfer intermediate shaft. This involves chucking out the original shaft and gears and replacing them with a improved version that has tapered roller bearings on all gears. The original one has bronze thrust washers between the gears which wear and cause endfloat on the shaft. Jumping out of hi range is usually the first indication of this wear. Not so much of an issue with the V8 but more critical behind an Isuzu. Improved seals are available for both front/rear output shafts. You can PM me if you need any part numbers.
Cheers......Brian
