My total dislike is for those that have closed the factories here, sacked the labour force and gone offshore in the pursuit of profit.
It doesn't take much more time to read the labels as you go around the supermarket aisles and if you are like me, you need a little short rest anyway.
If you check the label on a Greenseas and Safcol tuna can, you will find that it was made in Thailand. To hell with them, let them eat cake.
BUY Australian made.
I also dont buy cheap milk (mine from Pauls, over $3 a jug ) or cheap
supermarket eggs, mine from a local Mackay producer.
I also buy meat from the local butcher and fruit and veg from the local co-op.
Some folk have no choice but to buy the cheapest from wherever to economise, no argument there, but we can all read the label on a product.

Heinz have bought Oz owned plants and then closed most of their plants in Australia. The latest stupidity is closing the beetroot processing line at Golden Circle which they bought not long ago.Quote:

The Thailand producer Kingfisher was originally a JV between SAFCOL and Kingfisher and the first MD was a SAFCOL man.
As time went by the JV was so successful that the Thai partner wanted to reinvest in the business but SAFCOL would not or could not. So the Thai partner bought out SAFCOL and the rest is history.
The story is one of lack of vision by an australian Coop, and highlights the problem coops have, as their main reason to exist is to take product from the producer members. Same with Golden Circle. it was as plain as day they should have set up in Thailand 30 years ago but the producer members said no.

Hardly practical to ship beetroot and other vegetables grown in the Lockyer Valley and pineapples grown on the Sunshine Coast to Thailand. Bad enough shipping beetroot 600 miles from Gatton to Cowra.Quote:

PS: I forgot about Golden Circle, I dont eat those sort of foods usually.
I will check whats on the can oneday to see where it was made.
I forgot to mention that at the small supermarket chain that I shop at, IGA, I dont buy their cheaper home brands.
In IGA's favour they give pensioners a 4% discount on the total bill on Thursdays.
Also, if you present with a petrol reciept they give a 4% discount off the bill. You dont need to shop first to get a discount at the petrol station, therefor they are not manipulating the price of fuel to the consumer, like the other two.
That would be an 8% reduction for a pensioner who shops on a Thursday so would partly negate the need to buy a cheaper home brand
and would assist our struggleing producers !! If a pensioner still has to buy the cheaper brand, I have no argument with that.
It aint rocket science, shop wisely and protect ours at every opportunity.
