hmm yeah. seeing as I live about 250k's away from my fokes putting insurance in their name might not be the best idea.
have contacted a few which take a bit longer to get back.
the biggest pain in the arse is most insurers have a caped value of $2000 for aftermarket gear.
No matter what car you have as a young male these days your insurance will always be an insane amount of money unless you do go down the illegal path of using your parents insurance etc.Quote:

If you're going for comprehensive it doesn't matter what car it is, any insurance company will request you bend over something and let your guard down, so to speak. A modified 4WD won't be seen any differently by them then a Volvo station wagon. You've become a stereotype as a young male and will be unfairly treated.
I'd say that unless you really are prepared to spend that much money on comprehensive and don't mind the insurance company completely stiffing you, just get fire and theft and save the rest to replace anything you do break. Seems like fire and theft is the best value insurance cover that responsible male drivers under 25 can get these days.
Unfortunately you are a Male and You are of Young age. Males young age group have highest amount of claims so no one likes to touch them.
Is it possible to insure the vehicle in the name of an older family member and have you designated as a driver on the policy?
This could save you heaps of roubles on the policy. The Excess may be something else.
I recently asked Shannons about my 16 year old driving my Disco whilst teaching him to drive they said no problems as long as I allowed him to drive.

Strange, he can learn in a V8 heavy vehicle but when licensed is limited on cubics.
