From a Non-English speaking background , what does Girt actually mean ? Just a genuine question? Surrounded ?

Yes, Girt essentially means surrounded. Surrounded just didnt sound to good in the song and Aussie's are known for shortening words .

while we are on the subject of correct (and appropriate) terminology, "spelling Ninja" is a lot nicer term given the history of the Gestapo (and Nazis)

While we are on the subject of correct terminology, the original error isn't really a "typo".

Strictly speaking, a typo is "a mistake in printed matter resulting from mechanical failures of some kind".

These days the meaning is often broadened to include mistakes resulting from accidentally hitting the wrong key on the keyboard.

However, its meaning has not yet been debased to the point where it covers a mistake where the writer chose the wrong word.

    it's still a **** national anthem.

i still like ' god save the queen '

and don't start going on about the sheep thief song, that's good . but in its place.

    but as national anthems go,
thank christ we aren't italian or french.
both stirring anthems, if you only have to listen to the music.

and back to our national anthem,

    try singing:
why was she born so beautiful etc to our anthem, - it fits perfectly.

am i a royalist? no, but i think it would cost **** loads to remove the royals from our nations paperwork and all else, for what benefit to the tax payer?
