Indian Myrna birds

I've just come back from Port Douglas/daintree area and I saw a poster about indian mynah eradication program. had a brief read, it included some form of trapping/euthenasia but I didnt fully read it. The Cairns council (who cover a lot of that area now) should be able to give any interested party info on their program. There is a lot of local participation in land care and similar management programs up there at the moment.

the way mynas' all stick together a trap with net over the top could take out quite a few.
however have no idea about how the net would be suspended or released.

Our border collie hates them. He will bark and chase any that land within 20m of him. Only the Indian Mynahs - nothing else :angel: Smart dog.

[And I always thought they were "Minor" birds.....:lol2: :whistling: ]

Washed the beast the other day(seeing as were going to have fine-sunny weather for a change lol).
Went to get in it this morning and there was bird droppings around the mirror/down both front doors and on the bonnet + scratch marks at the base of each window.:twisted::twisted::twisted::mad::mad::mad:: mad:

Tonight I covered the front doors/windows and mirrors with some old sheets..
We'll see how that goes until I build the traps..

Not the most practical advice I've ever given but one can't be sensible all the time.

See attached photograph - this may be the chap of whom you speak. Met him while he was playing at his weekend hobby, visiting historic castles and pretending to be Knights of Old, bashing away at his mates with his sword and mace. His day job is to go to airports and places which have a bird problem, to persuade the birds to move on.

listening to one of the am radio stations here in Brisbane the other day - apparently the indian myna is one of the most invasive birds found.

At this stage they are still relatively small in populations but wait until they get to spoggy levels, millions of them - no matter who you look at it unless action is taken now and continued we can see a reduction or very real threat of extinction of our native birds which compete for the same types of food.
