Who's a POM?

Just to give a bit of balance, before you mob get too carried away, I'm a native born LR tragic, on my Mothers side, we come from England about 200 years ago, on my Fathers we have been here for about 40,000 years. Add to the mix my wifes Irish ancestors, All I can say is you are all bloody welcome, just be true to this country, Bob

I'll admit that the above were the original reasons for my choice of the various British vehicles I have owned over the past 40 years. But to be honest and realistic,British built cars and trucks haven't been examples of engineering excellance for over 60 years, if they ever were.

It also bugs me that the average Aussie can't get the distinction between being "British" versus being "English". So when someone says to me "You're English, aren't you?", the answer is no. I speak English, but my passport says British. :D

Australia is home. End of story, miss nothing of the old country. Everything I have is invested here, both emotionally and financially.

During the second World War, all of the Australian victories in the middle east were reported as "British" victories. Speak to any member of the Australian 9TH Division, not many left now, they will tell you what they think of being called" British" . Bob

G'day All, count me in, arrived here in 1951 (last century:o) owned a Land Rover since 1969, had a Mini Cooper S Mk1 prior to that, not interested in football, cricket or any sport for that matter, (other than building Land Rovers) been back once, other than meeting relatives and some museums, I didn't think much of it, best place we visited in my book was York, cheers Dennis:angel:

I think I will call myself 6th generation Aussie:D with a strong English heritage and love Land Rovers;)

My folks were 10 pound poms too... I got here in 1964 at the ripe old age of 22 months. I was born in Kent.

Like you I've been kind of slack with the transplant...

This monday I get to do the test and see if I'm aussie enough to stay... Only taken me 48 years to get around to it.... :p

Hi all,
My hand is going up too. Born in Carshalton ( London ) 1949 , came to Aus. in 1970 and loved it . Never been back.
Most of my friends just refer to me as the Pom, sometimes used with an adjective. No offence meant or taken, give as good as I get and love the banter.
Oh, by the way, I bought the 130 because it was the best vehicle for the job ( I hope ), my daily drive is a diesel Hyundai Santa Fe and I think they are pretty good too.

Another one here....originally from Lancashire. Married to an Queensland country girl and we moved here to the Sunshine Coast in 2005. I have to say, other being away from family, I don't miss the UK at all and I'm very grateful to have the opportunity to live and work here.

Oh and I support Preston North End.....

No prizes for spotting that I'm a Pommy bastard, the clue is in the 'handle'. My wife is Polish, hence Poleonpom ;-) you work it out.

Came over in '90, went back to the UK for 2 years, 9 years later got the chance to come back; have never looked or been back!

Realised a long time ago I'm the UK export model; I have a plummy english accent and yet never get called a 'Pom'. Ironically I seem to fit in Australia better than the UK and have friends from all religions and walks of life.

Love Europe but not a big fan of the way the UK has changed; doubt I'll ever go back there. I lived in Banbury, a pretty good place, came from Highgate in London originally. No family left there, but when they were there they lived not far away from the home of the British Grand Prix!

Always had a Land Rover in the garage. Love well engineered or well made British products; a set of Purdies, my P38, Anderson & Shepard suits, Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, Garrard etc. See the same here, but am big supporter of RM Williams and Akubra.

I miss the Uk country pursuits, however I also think this is because I live in central Melbourne, so planning to go bush in the next 2 years.
