As i think you saw, I have 2 of the MSA slides in my camping canopy. Harry Ho Hard kindly modified 1 of them to accommodate my kitchen unit. During this process we came to understand how much R & D must have gone into them, because it took us some time and effort to get the lift mechanism just right.

I say this to warn you that making one might not be a mean feat! Perhaps it might be as extending the slides. Good luck though

As for safety issues, what bull****. Sour grapes they didn't think of it first if you ask me. Seriously, I can put mine away with a full 52 litre fridge using just 2 fingers!

    Definitely very happy with mine.

I'm not having a go at Black Widow - I have several friends with BW gear and they all love it - that is one of the reasons I went to thier website - to see what they had that I may have been able to use - instead I found that - It's not something I have made up - it is on thier website plain as day for all to see, so something they are not trying to shy away from... It just seemed like a bit of a cop out to me - that's why I posted it.

Hi Ranga - yeah, I love the way you have that set up. Was the extra time you spend setting up the kitchen unit to do with how they are counter balanced with springs? Did you use bigger spings, or modify the lever points? Any chance of some close up photos of the mechanism??? I think I will have a crack at trying to make one - as I said in the first post, I would like something to extend beyond the tailgate before I drop it down - time will tell if I get it right or not - and if not and I get my fingers trapped in it, you can all start calling me stumpy...

    Cheers - Gav

The extra time was getting the lift handle angles and stops points right. A bit of trial and error, but wasn't too frustrating.

They have gas struts, no springs. I'm thinking about putting bigger struts on the kitchen slide to assist with the extra weight.

I think you have got me wrong, I have BW storage system and a drop slide.

Both work well together and are both good quality.

As for safety issue, I have never had a problem and cannot think of what the safety issues would be.

BW are full of it on this one.....

    Lightbulb

    G'day Gav,
As a thought, I have my slide coming out over the ute tailgate (it stops just shy of the edge) so why couldn't you just sit the Dropdown on a normal slide. Then all you have to do is slide the bottom unit out, then work the Dropdown out and down?
Just a thought, then you might have the option to get a good second hand unit

    Cheers Chops
