    RRC v Cruiser fuel usage

Chatting to the neighbour over the weekend Landy v Cruiser (again).
It appears my RRC 3.9V8 petrol on lpg does about the same dollar per k as his diesel cruiser :P

that's not bad for a RRC, considering they have to carry that extra weight of a çruiser attached to their drag chain.

Err, thats not really anything new, unless your running a BBC then lpg V diesel is a close race cost per klm wise. Its the range thats always the problem and associated extra weight of tanks etc.

the point i was making was that I get to drive a V8 with associated (relative) speed/power and he gets to drive what amounts to a tractor, with associated speed/power

He would win long range but even stopping for fuel I would get there quicker

I also once had this discussion with my 100 Series-owning neighbour, with the same result. And she couldn't go over 100kmh or so because it would run too hot, (though I'm sure that could have been fixed). So I don't worry all that much about fuel consumption since Toyotas can be so bad as well, but also because I really like the sound of the V8 and I may as well enjoy it while I can!
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.

No you would'nt, because you're both law-abiding upright Citizens, - who are terrified of hidden Multinovas.

Depends a lot on how far you're going... 350 km or 1350 km trip each way.

How long do you think you're parked at the bowser each time? - 5 minutes? - In that time the diesel has opened up another 8.1km gap. Or 1.62 km per minute

Depending on 'where' the trip is, you could stop 5 times, maybe more, sometimes short-hopping 'cos the next hop is just beyond you're range if you relay on the previous fill.

Thats' 24km gap. Nearly half an hour.

Reckon each stop will 'only' be 5 minutes ?

Then there's the horrendous price of LPG once out of sight of the city. (last time I took out LPG-only car out bush)

Yet for city work, the 88/89 RRC we used to tow a sweeper with, gave around - from dimming memory - 3 km/l on LPG using a crude gas mixer setup. That was 3 years ago, and the comparison was well in favour for LPG.

Today would be closer due to the ridiculous price of LPG plus fuel excise...

Yes All good mate, but wait till you have to tow something with a V8.

my brother towing a Jayco Eagle in his GU Petrol/gas got 30l/100 klm

same trip I had a Toyota turbo diesel towing similar Jayco Penguin I got 15l/100klm

I used to have a RRC/series 2/90 hybrid with Ford 302w, I thought I liked the power but after a chipped TD5 I'll never have a petrol again.

I don't find rangies to be that bad on fuel.....on a trip

I (RRC: 4.2L flapper efi R380 LT230) got an 15.96L/100 . A 3L patrol got 12.68L/100 over the same distance before it blew up and the RR had to tow it 200km

My worked sigma and scorpions are both 4cyl and are around the 12-14L/100 though they get driven hard
