You must have got the other drivers details, send them a letter of demand asking for the cost to repair or replace. It is then up to the other driver to send the letter of demand to their insurance.
The insurance company could deal with you or ignore you. They can settle, they can fight it in court but will most likely settle if they can negotiate a payout they think is fair. If your insurance company gets involved they will most likely settle.
I think it might be an unwritten rule, force the the other chum to use his insurance, that way you have to at least pay the excess and it keeps the insurance companies in business.

Just a thought, find out the buy back price of that Land Rover, as there would be some on here that would like the chance to get it it for spares, that's assuming it will be written off.
