    Hi Shonky,

Of all the times to need help in our neck of the woods. I am up in Rockhampton at Beef week until Sunday, so we couldn't help.

I always carry a set of unis, so repairs would have been a piece of cake.

Great that Goeff could help out.

    An Aussie Rover Rescue service?

Thanks for helping Andrew out Geoff

In the US they have the "BIRMABRIGHT BROTHERHOOD - Rover Broke? Call a Bloke" (Birmabright Brotherhood - Rover Broke? Call a Bloke!)

Maybe we could have something like that through this site. Any problems with that Dave?

Today, of course, you are right Paul. We have often seen stranded members helped in far flung places and back on their way!
With internet connection to the breadth of membership here using smartphones, ipads, laptops, netbooks etc it is less of a problem than it was years ago.

What I was thinking of was something a little more formalised than the response to a plea for help. The foreseen problems with the original US site were that people's contact details were (possibly) too freely available and that there were security risks.

    Great idea Bob,

I guess we already have an informal network of keen helpers but if we had a few threads

"Help Wanted ....(insert region)" then those of us that were subscribed could get an auto-email. Maybe even a sticky thread?

Many of us get messages on our phones, so could be a quick response.

( or if Shonky was stuck in Melbourne I could have my excuses ready!)

    Yes,

That is what I was thinking - a specific area to post a "Please Help" - like the AULRO Courier Service.

Thanks to all who offered help or were unable to but would have if they could. I very much appreciate it. You gotta love that even having been largely absent from the AULRO community in recent months, I can still put up a request for rescue and within ten minutes a familiar face is on the way.

Geoff came and got me and guided me and the limping Deefer back to his place up the road, cracked out the jack and the tools and loaned me his front lawn and within no time we had the prop whipped out and I was underway again.

I was at the end of a long and painfully unpleasant day and I had very much run out of happy by that stage. I can't tell you how thankful I was to get back on the road and get home to a comfy armchair by the fire and a glass or 6 of red.

So a massive public thank you to Geoff (and family + pets) and also Diana for giving him the heads up that I was in the area and failing to proceed without lots of bad noises and vibrating and swearing and stuff.

Addit - I am now living in Cootamundra so "home" was significantly further afield than previously.
